"What is this thing?" I asked huddled with Alina.
"I call her the Hummingbird," Sturmhond said, "but I might rename her the Firebird."
Alina looked at me worriedly and began to breathe heavily. I grabbed her hand lightly, she looked at me and smiled.
"Cut anchor and release!"
Tolya and Tamar did as Sturmhond said.
"Make sail," Sturmhond called.
The sails were set and the breeze caught as we left the Volkvolny. "Squallers!"
All the Squallers were posted at a hull. Their arms raised guiding the wind through the sails. Faster and faster we were guided forward.
All of a sudden I felt something land on my lap.
"Take these," Sturmhond ordered. Looking down were goggles he gave some to Mal and Alina. As Alina and I looked around it seemed like the whole crew had some on. So I did the same and put them on.
The ship was going faster. He was surely in a hurry to get to land, but why?
We went over waves, bump after bump. I was holding in the puke in my mouth.
"Alright Squallers," Sturmhond commanded, "take us up. Sailors to wings on my count!"
Huh? That didn't make sense...
Alina turned to Mal, "What is that supposed to mean?"
"I don't know but I'm about to barf," I answered. Mal shrugged with wide eyes. Alina whipped around to me, "come here." She put her arm out but I declined.
"I will survive. I've got this. Do you not remember? I am the strongest heartrender alive."
"That we know of," Mal whispered.
Alina hit Mal on the chest as I glared at him.
"You guys need to stop fighting do you know how annoying-"
"FIVE!"
Alina stopped talking.
"FOUR!"
The squallers raised their hands higher and wider.
"THREE!"
A boom was heard. I didn't know what it was but I didn't like it.
"TWO!"
"Heave!" the sailors cried.
"ONE!"
The ship took off. Took off as in took flight! FLIGHT! I closed my eyes tightly leaning into Alina and Mal. I began to pray to the saints or whoever was listening. Don't kill us. Don't kill us.
Sturmhond was laughing like a psychopath. Squallers were yelling orders. I was going to die. Or puke. Wasn't sure. My stomach felt all queasy.
"Alina, Amelia," Mal yelled over the wind.
"W-what?" Alina answered she moved a bit and I pounced to keep her by me.
"Open your eyes. You guys have to see this."
"Nope. Not happening, Mal." I yelled. I felt Alina shake her head.
"Come on. Just try it."
Alina probably opened her eyes I heard her gasp. "Amelia look."
I slowly opened my eyes and screamed like a maniac.
There were stars above us. And below us was the ocean with the moonlight reflected on it. I was going to puke at any moment. We're going to fall and die. We were in the frickin sky flying. Oh, saints.
