This story is about a girl named is Veronica "Roni" Ruth. Yes, as in The Babe Ruth.
One day on a lonely walk through her neighborhood, Roni encounters a sandlot. There she meets 8 guys and befriends them. 5 years later, Roni is the best player in t...
Everyone quietly sat inside the Timmons brother's treehouse trying to figure out a solution to Small's problem.
Suddenly Smalls got an idea. "Hey, I got it! Why don't we just go over... and knock on the door and ask Mr. Mertle is he can go get it for us?"
Roni nods. "Yeah. It couldn't hurt to try."
Squints looks at the two in disbelief. "Are you out of your minds?! Mr. Mertle is the meanest old man that ever lived. He's the one that made the beast eat that kid."
He pushed his glasses up as he chuckled. "It's not an option, Smalls. Forget about it!"
Smalls nods. "Oh, okay. Sorry. I-I will."
Roni puts a hand on Smalls' shoulder as Squints shakes his head annoyed. "Let's just look out the window."
Everyone nods. "Good idea."
They all look from the windows of the treehouse into the scrapyard to see destroyed toys and bones. They also see the signed Babe Ruth ball roll out from the beast's lean-to.
They all back away from the windows and sit back down as Timmy gulps. "He's daring us."
Ham nods. "We're on his territory now."
"Anybody got any bright ideas?" Benny asks.
Roni suddenly gets an idea and tells the sandlot crew her plan.

The Sandlot crew had made a small hole in the fence between them and the beast.
Ham was up front putting the stick through as Squints was up in the treehouse. He was the look out and would navigate them towards the ball.
Once they had finally the stick near the ball, The beast stepped on the ball and stick. Ham held onto the stick as he and the sandlot crew had a tug of war with the beast.
The Beast won by chewing off his side of the stick. At the sight off the bitten off side, the kids all screamed and shouted in fear.
They had come up with a new plan and a long piece of erector set with a pan attached to the end of it through the hole in the fence. Squints continues to navigate them towards the ball.
With squints' help, the sandlot crew had gotten the ball under the the pan and celebrate their tiny win. The celebration was cut short by the Beast stomping on the pan attached to the erector set.
The Beast sent the now destroyed erector set flying over the fence as all the kids watched with wide eyes in shock.
They all walk over to the destroyed erector set and huddle around.
"I think we've seriously underestimated The Beast." Timmy concludes.
Squints agrees. "Obviously, we are dealing with a superior intelligence."
