"Then why did you agree?"

You spin around at the voice to see Nines, his partner advancing right on his heel.

"So I don't have to deal with Gavin's obnoxious comments any longer. Let's get this over with," you exclaim, readying yourself as you move into position.

Gavin approaches, standing in front of you to guarantee that you notice him. "Hey! What about making some rules? Don't need you cheatin'..." he states, finger pointing rather closely to your chest.

Footsteps crunch in the grass, and a deep voice sounds off, "any rules made will only hinder what I can do. They will most likely be giving an advantage to detective (l/n)."

"Fine then. The one rule will be this... You can only be on the ground level at the start of the race, and if it's a short distance between buildings. Our goal is to reach the DPD, a couple of miles away," you declare with a sassy pose and body facing the android. "As long as parkour is what you're doing then there's no cheating. Tops of vehicles, trains, and anything man made. So no wing suits, parachutes, gliders, or anything like that."

"Where the fuck would he get those!?" Gavin spits in confusion.

You shrug. "How would I know? I just want to cover the basic rules of parkour."

Nines smiles, eyes squinting in the slightest. "I'm fully aware of what parkour entails. It's a part of my programming after all." He removes his jacket, tossing it into Reed's face.

"What the fuck!?" he shouts when his vision goes black. Hands hastily rip it off of his head, irritation evident in his expression as gray eyes bore into the android.

"I'll be able to move faster without loose clothing... You can hold onto it."

"Hell if I will!"

Icy blues glare at the man, hands gently rolling his sleeves perfectly to the elbows. "Get it dirty, and you'll deeply regret it..."

"Enough chit chat. Are you ready?" you question, positioning just right to gain the quickest take off.

He walks to your side, and legs stagger to mimic your actions. "Whenever you are."

"On the count of three. One." You stiffen your muscles, absorbing all of your energy. "Two." A deep breath is taken, and eyes squint in focus. "Three!"

Both of you take off in a quick dash, side by side, as you maintain the speed of your competitor.

"Hey! What about me!" Gavin yells from far behind.

"You know where we're going!" Nines shouts with a brief look over his shoulder.

Mumbles of irritation expel from the man, and his arms cross with annoyance. "Fine... Guess I'll just have to see the end of the race then..."

"You're keeping up with me so far. Wonder how long that'll last," Nines cockily states, quickly jumping over a bush.

"You'll be eating my dust in no time!"

As the street approaches, you both split. Nines starts by jumping onto cars, using their height and speed to leap onto a nearby awning. While he begins his ascent up the window frames you decide to take a nearby fire escape, dodging any traffic along the way. With enough speed you manage to jump onto a large, metal trash bin before lunging for the dangling ladder. The sudden added weight drags the escape downward, but it doesn't slow your progression in the slightest. Within a minute you find yourself at the top of the building.
