Chapter 49: Breaking News: Olivia Becomes Dora the Explorer To Find Gal Pal

There are countless, pristine corridors, with doors leading off into separate rooms.

I peer into one of these rooms, gently pushing the door open, and see two children, about the age of 9, sitting on the floor.

It's a boy and girl, and they both have their backs facing me.

"I miss my brother" the girl says.

"It's amazing what you did. I'm sorry it was all for nothing" the boy replies.

"It's ok. I also miss my parents too"

"I don't remember my mom. But I do remember my dad, unfortunately, and I don't miss him. I'm tough, though, so I don't need him anyway"

The girl gasps. "Why don't you miss your dad?!"

"He was always very drunk and violent"

"He hit you?!" the girl exclaims in disbelief.

"Yeah. I'm much better off without him. The name's Gally, by the way. Who are you?"

"Olivia"

Wait. That was me and Liv?! Did this really happen, or is this just a dream? Am I getting those memory things like Olivia used to get?

"Wanna play with my cars?" young me asks her, walking over to a drawer and pulling some toys out of it.

"Gally? Gally, get up!" Olivia shakes me awake. When I open my eyes, she smiles and kisses my nose.

"Everything ok?"

"Alby needs you to tell him what happened in the Maze now, so you don't forget something. Come on" She stands up and takes my hand, dragging me up and out the door, to Alby's hut.

"Hey, Gally. I presume Liv told you why you're here?" he asks, Newt and Minho by his side.

"Yeah" I respond, giving her hand a quick squeeze.

"Do you want to take a seat?" He signals to the chairs. Liv and I sit down, and I rub her thigh while I tell them both what happened.

"I LOVE YOU!" Liv chokes out, her sobbing already getting uncontrollable.

"I LOVE YOU TOO!" Unfortunately, my response was drowned out by the roar of a Griever. I turn around and run, not really fancying becoming its dinner.

I keep on going, not wanting to stop and give something an opportunity to kill me.

What I had told Olivia and Ella when they were trapped in the Maze echoes in my mind.

'HIDE FOR THE NIGHT! OK?! DON'T LEAVE YOUR HIDING SPOT UNLESS A GRIEVER FINDS YOU!'

I need to follow my own advice. It's my only chance at survival.

The problem is, I don't know the Maze. I don't know where the shuck I can possibly hide, if there even is anywhere at all.

I just need to keep on running and hope that I stumble across somewhere that's safe.

I had been jogging for about an hour or so by now, trying to conserve energy, and so far I hadn't crossed paths with any Grievers, thank god.

There's suddenly an ear-splitting roar. I guess I spoke too soon.

I take off sprinting down a random corridor, my heart thumping in my chest so hard that I'm convinced it's going to explode.

"Shit, shit, shit, shit!" I mumble under my breath as I can hear the Griever, and my inevitable death, getting closer.
