You'd been dating Dave for several months, but suddenly, something happened.
He nearly died and he refused to tell you anything about what took place. So you made a difficult decision and broke up with him.
But Dave has been pleading with you to come back. You want to, but aren't sure that you can trust him anymore
Swearing and innuendo and some major angust.
......................
No. This isn't real. You reach over for the other side of the bed and... nothing. It's... empty. The reality hits you over the head.
He's... not there anymore. The tears start slowly but soon, are gusting out of your eyes. Shit! Why? Screams in the back of your mind.
You press your face in the pillow, soaking it with your tears. You force yourself to calm down. All the damn tears in the world aren't going to stop this deep ache inside of you.
.....................
Two months ago:
You're cuddled up against Dave's body, his arm securely around you. You lean over a bit, gently kissing him and he smiles.
He's handsome, although not in a Hollywood type way. More like a healthy, outdoorsy way. You met at a coffee shop, funnily enough.
Both you and Dave would stop there in the morning before you headed to your jobs. Dave at his big, important job and you at your library job.
He finally worked up enough nerve to ask you out. You thought about it for a couple of days before agreeing to go out with him. And it turned out to be one of the best dates you'd ever been on.
Dave was such a kind soul. And incredibly gentle towards you. Sometimes you wondered if he worried he might hurt you in some way. The first time you made love, he was so careful and it almost made you want to laugh.
Even now, after you've been dating for a while, Dave is still acting like he might break you.
"I'm not that easy to break," you tease him and he chuckles softly before holding you by the waist and kissing you more hungrily.
"I know. I guess I just worry I'll..get a little too... carried away with you."
"Not possible." You slowly drag your fingers over the rough stubble on his right cheek and he smiles softly at you.
Dave grins and leans in to give you a gentle kiss. You smack his cheek lightly and he laughs.
"Kiss me harder than that, you dork," you whisper as you begin to nibble on his lips.
Dave grabs you by the waist and kisses you harder. You love the feel of his lips against yours. Dave holds you.
"You're beautiful," he growls softly. You giggle.
"And you're handsome."
"You're such a brown noser." You laugh, hooking your fingers around his neck and gazing into his brown eyes.
"Damn right."
......................
You're listening to the sixth voicemail that Dave has left you. You hug your legs tightly, resting your head on your knees, as the tears slowly slip out and slide down your cheeks.
"Hey, my sweet, beautiful girl, I know I shouldn't keep calling you like this. It's not healthy. But, oh my god, I can't seem to make myself quit. Oh, Y)N, I'm so sorry. So damn sorry! I...I need you so damn much that I can't think straight. Please come back to me. Please."
You erase the message. Just like you did with all the others. You gently set the phone down on the floor and press your eyes into your knees, as the tears slide down your legs as you convulse into sobs.
.......................
"Why the hell didn't you just tell me the damn truth?"
"I wanted to. Believe me."
"I don't have to believe anything!"
Dave covers his face with his hands, turning his body slightly. You can see him trembling. He's upset with himself. You get that. But he still should have just told you.
"Dave, if you want things to work between us, you have to be honest with me."
Dave comes to you and gently pulls you against him, but you push him away. He's not getting off that damn easy.
"I love you, Y/N. Please. Just give me another chance."
He looks so sad. You want to cave. You don't want to be angry with him. But you don't like him being dishonest with you, either.
"I need some time to think." Dave nods, looking miserable. Your heart is breaking right now as you watch Dave pick up his suit jacket and fold it over his arm.
"I'll be ready for you whenever you want to talk."
Then.... he's gone.
................
You're running to Dave. You shout his name. He turns. He looks shocked. You haven't seen or spoken to him in days.
You decide that you can't live without him. But he has to swear to you that he'll always be honest with you. Regardless of the circumstances.
Dave drops his crap as you launch yourself into his arms and he holds you close, tilting your head up and gently kissing you.
You're both crying as you cling to one another. Dave hugs you and kisses your forehead. You love that. It's so sweet and tender.
"I want you, David York," you whisper. "Just swear to me that you'll always be honest with me from now on."
"I swear, Y/N. Just promise you won't leave me again. I need you too much."
He kisses you again and you smile faintly, brushing your fingertips over his stubbled cheek. He laughs.
"As long as you're honest with me, Dave. I can't be with somebody who isn't honest with me."
"I will be, sweet girl." You break apart and Dave leans over to begin collecting his crap.
"We'll talk about this more after work." You kiss his cheek.
"Sounds good."
..................
"I just feel so incomplete without you." You're cuddled up against each other.
"As do I. But I want to be able to trust you."
"You should be able to trust me. I'm sorry I wasn't straight with you before. I will be from now on."
You rake your fingers through Dave's hair, messing it up. It makes you smile. He smiles, too, kissing you.
"You're forgiven. I just better not catch you in a lie again. Or I'll make you seriously regret it."
"I wouldn't doubt you for a minute." Dave pauses.
"Please don't leave me." You kiss him.
"I won't, Dave."
