A man of science [ tf2 x reader insert ]

I was standing in front of the building that's going to make my dreams come true. Before I left the house I fixed my clothes and put on a mask and walked to the place. The apartment complex is right next to the building where I'm going to be interviewed and maybe work at. I took a deep long breath before going inside the building and went to the front desk. The building looked modern in a way and new, it had a bunched blacks and whites, maybe even grays.

" hi, do you have an appointment? " the lady at the front desk said, looking at the screen of her computer. Now this person just looks like the devil himself but a woman.

" um, yes I do. " I said as polite as possible with a smile under my mask looking composed with my hands behind my hand.

" what's your name? " the lady said still looking at the screen.

" Ethan, Ethan Delaney " I said nonchalantly, hopefully looking like a nice guy.

She turned from the screen and faced me but was now looking through some papers trying to find something. While she did that, I looked around the building some more from where I'm standing. There were a few chairs around that look like little lounging areas and some vending machines. The chairs were a deep navy blue with a golden trim to them.

" ah, mr. Delaney, yea you have an appointment with Dr. Dark. Have a seat at one of the chairs in the lounge area and he will be with you in a moment " the lady said fixing the paperwork she has and went back to staring lifelessly at the computer screen.

I went to a random seat and sat down, figured it be a while before I meet this Dr. Dark, so I grab a book from the table in-front of me and started reading. It was an interesting book to say the least, it was about how a couple can't be around each other and die in each other's arms, it seemed weird at first but interesting towards the end.

" Delaney, right? " I hear a man say standing next to me with a clipboard in his hands. He wore a lab coat with a light gray turtle neck, and black pants with black dress shoes. His hair was slicked back with too much hair gel.

" uh, yes that's me " I said putting the book down and getting up from my chair.

" I'm Dr. Dark, it's a pleasure to meet you. " he said holding his hand out.

" a pleasure meeting you as well " I said shaking his hand with a smile under my mask.

" follow me and we can talk in my office " he said starting to walk there already, Maybe he is in a hurry for something or someone. I walked with him hands behind my back being silent, watching everything as we walk through hallways. I could hear the man sigh for a second and mumble something to himself, I didn't was to seem too curious or nosey about his life so I didn't say anything. He flung open some doors and went inside, I casually walked in and looked around. It looked like a normal office but more modern and more to do with science and physics.

" so, what's with the mask? It's not like I don't have any kind of disease or anything. " he said jokingly, giggling with a smile on his face, going to sit in his office chair.

" I prefer not to talk about that matter. My Personal matters don't apply here in this interview. " I said with a blank stare, staring right at him.

" alright then " he said while grabbing something from a bunch of paperwork. It looked like a folder of sorts with a bunch more of paperwork inside.

" so, from what I read from your folder. You've had a very high IQ sense you were young, is that correct? "

" yes " I said nonchalantly still staring at him.

" and you've started making a few interesting inventions from what I've seen in your portfolio " he said slightly impressed about that fact.

" that's correct " I said nonchalantly and blank like.

" hmm, well you seem qualified to work here and I like how intelligent and servant you are mr. Delaney. " he said getting up from his chair and walking towards me.

" your hired my friend "

I smiled with joy, happy I finally met my dreams after so long.

" thank you Dr. Dark " I said shaking his hand in mine.

" please, call me Gray. " he said smiling, shaking my hand back.

" you'll work on week days, and days we need you on. You will be working with a few people or by yourself, on experiments and inventions we have here in this facility. And you can make your own if you wanted to. " he said walking me out of his office and into the lounge area where we first started.

" when do I start " I said with confidence and a smile.

" you'll start Monday so get plenty of rest my friend, you have a great day " he said smiling

" you to Gray, thank you again " I said walking to the front door of the building.

I started walking to the apartment complex and finally got into the building. I went into the elevator and pushed the button to my floor. When the elevator stopped and Opened its doors I began to walk to my new home. I could hear other people in there apartments doing......um.....things. I unlocked my door and went inside excited to tell my mother about the news. I went to the couch and pulled out my phone to call her. It's kinda weird feeling like this, like a kid almost..........never mind. I took off my mask, grabbed my phone and dialed my mother, it rung for a moment before I could hear the kind woman behind it.

" hello? " she answered

" hi mom "

" oh hi dear, how are you? " she responded

" I'm doing well, I have something to tell you "

" what is it? What's wrong? " she said worriedly

" I got the job "

" ... " there was silence on the other end for a while before a squeal could be heard. A rather impressive squeal by my mother who is only 46.

" oh honey I'm so proud of you! " she yelled in happiness.

I smiled a genuinely happy one. it's been so long since I smiled like this, I actually felt happy for once.

" thank you mom "

" I'm so glad you got the job, we shou- " someone cut her off on the other end. It sounded like a man was yelling at my mom about something, she yelled back with a good comeback and left it at that.

" I have to leave now dear, I love you, bye " she said quickly before hanging up on me.

I sighed and went to the bathroom for a well needed shower. I sometimes wander if there are alternant realities where the incident didn't happen. Where everything was normal and fine, but there is no such thing. I thought while getting out and going to my room to get dressed. After putting on some sleep wear i laid my glasses on the side table, crawled into my bed and stared at the ceiling.

' I wander if I'm going to be working alone tomorrow, or maybe with others, hopefully alone ' I thought while I drifted out of reality.
