Today, like many others, was a very tiring day.
Another boring day.
Another long day.
Sure, it had been Friday but...it didn't feel like it. I felt odd, to say the least, today. I always felt like I was...well, being watched. I couldn't explain it. And honestly, if I tried to, people would just call me crazy.
But right now, it wasn't my biggest concern.
You see, I have a project due tomorrow.
It had been a group project with my best friend Joe.
It had also been put off for a week because of said best friend.
Wait- how long have we been walking anyways? My legs were sore and the dark circles under my eyes seemingly getting darker with each passing minute.
A bright light flickered and I squinted, quickly moving my arm up to my face as if to block something from hitting me. As soon as I noticed that there was actually nothing that was going to hit me, I removed my arm from in front of my face.
The lightbulb from a nearby streetlamp had burned out.
I sighed as I placed a finger from each hand onto my temples.
I needed to concentrate.
And just as I did I heard the ramblings of Joe fade in again. Man, does he ever stop talking?
And as if on cue, he did. Well, just to start talking again.
“Yo, Y/N! Are you ok? You don't look so good.” Joe gave me a worried look as I turned to face him.
“Huh- yeah I'm fine it's nothing,” I said as we seemingly made it back to my house.
“Let's just do this dumb project so I don't get yelled at again.”
As I pulled out my house key, I saw that Joe’s worried look had softened a bit. I stuck the key in the door, turned it, and opened the door.
Joe slipped past me, managing to get in before I could.
But as I walked in:
“Why are the lights off-?”
I turned to face Joe, or what I thought was Joe and signaled a concerned look.
“I don't know. This is your house, after all, Y/N.”
Huh- guess I was wrong. I turned to what I now know is in fact joe.
“Oh right-” I paused, sounding like an idiot. “Let's just find a light switch.”
Joe and I split up across the living room to find the light switch. Even though it was my house, I could not remember where the light switches were for the life of me.
I dragged my fingers across the wall, hoping to find a plastic rectangle that somewhat resembled a light switch. However, the walls were cold. Now that I thought about it- the whole house was cold. The sudden realization sent a shiver down my spine. Or the shiver could have very well been triggered by how cold the house was. Nevertheless, it was weird
