"Our God, is an awesome God He reigns, from heaven above with wisdom and power and love, our God is an awesome God!" The beautiful voices of the church rise up together in loud singing throughout the whole building.
The sight in front of me is so beautiful. God's people dancing and laughing and singing worship, it sounds just as loud as any concert in a stadium full of people. Except here, we are celebrating life. We are celebrating true love and true peace. The eternal love and grace of a God that lives forever.
The energy and the comfort of dancing together and hugging one another in Godly affection has made my heart warm all morning. I raise my hands up and close my eyes as I start moving to the beautiful sounds of the stringed instruments coming from the front of the church. April grabs my hand and I open my eyes at her face that is flushed from jumping around since this song started. She starts pulling me out of the third row and towards the front of the room and I quickly grab on to Sadie's arm to pull her along with us.
As we reach the crowd full of dancing people, we grab some palm branches in our hands that are being handed out to wave in the air with the rest of the church.
"Our God is an awesome God He reigns," I get lost in the flowing beat of the music and the presence of the Holy Spirit. My feet and arms move to the beat of the song that has everyone out of their seats and praising God with an outburst of loud and spiritual singing. This is truly what we live for because we know, that in heaven, this is going to be multiplied with so much more love from the One we are singing to. And that is worth giving up all that the world has to offer outside these doors.
"Our God is an awesome God!" We finish together and a loud roar of laughter and praise rips through the air and I can't help but laugh and hug the elderly woman beside me.
"God bless you!" I say.
"You too, deary!" She grins.
"Praise God." Pastor Samson says into his mic. "Can I get an amen?"
"Amen!" The congregation applaud.
"What a beautiful service. I hope Mister Fields and his family have enjoyed themselves on this lovely Sunday." He says as he searches for my scattered family through the crowd of people.
I get smiles and waves from the people I come in eye contact with and blush at the sudden attention on my family and I.
"I hope you have felt the Lord's' presence overwhelm you as much as it has overwhelmed me." He says as he motions to his red face. He receives chuckles from the church and I can't help but smile as well."And we are so happy that God has sent such beautiful people to join our family!"
"Thank you!" My dad's thick accent sounds from somewhere close by.
"Let's gather together for our final prayer of the morning, brothers and sisters."
Sadie, April and I interlock fingers as we bow our heads as soon as Pastor Samson leads us prayer.
"Our heavenly Father, thank You for always being with us, for never leaving us, for taking us out of the darkness. Thank you for Jesus, for sending Your precious Son to die for our sins. We thank You for the things you have given in to our lives that we take as casualties. We are sorry for not paying enough attention to them in our everyday lives. We understand there are less fortunate people out there, Lord, and we are sorry if we are not thankful enough for Your everlasting abundance in giving. We ask that You lead us on Your narrow path towards Your heavenly gates. We ask that You change our hearts and minds to think and be more like Jesus Christ our Savior. Take the world out of our hearts and replace it with You, Lord. We want to be more like You each and every day and while we can't reach perfection here on this earth, we trust that You will keep us and hold us in Your mighty right hand and lead us as close to perfect as possible. We love You, thank You for your grace and this life You have blessed us with, and please bless the rest of our day."
