         pov Max

A blaring beeping screeched from the small alarm clock next to my bed. Hitting off on it. Slowly sitting up I groan. Taking in the sight of a messy room. Clothes on the floor, posters almost falling off the wall, a closet that is stuck open because of a heave dark oak dresser with drawers having closes hanging out. A small white desk in the corner of my room with a laptop and paper all over, chair pulled out with my open backpack. My feet touch the cold wooden floor. It was winter so that was common. I shiver and get up and walk over to my desk I grab the homework I had done shoving it into my simple plain black backpack. Walking over to the dresser I pull out socks and shove them on. 'That's better not so cold now' grabbing my clothes for the day I walk back to my bed. A band tee with a pair of ripped skinny jeans with custom patches, fishnets, a deep red jacket with bunny ears, and spikes on the hood helm. I made the jacket myself from a TikTok I saw. Stripping the crop top and shorts off I put the fishnets on with the jeans then the shirt.'It's silent..odd'. Shuffling over to the small bathroom in my room I do my makeup. Eyeliner with a simple dark red lip.

'Good enough it's a Tuesday and It's hard to do anything recently..' The only person who really cared died. My grandfather. He took care of me most of my life.

He lived three hours out in a nice small town with a nice big house. All the elders grew up there. Mom, aunts, uncles, and super close family friends. Six bedrooms and four bathrooms. A super nice den with a fireplace. I loved the fire in the winter with a nice cup of hot chocolate. It was left to me which I didn't know till yesterday afternoon. I had gotten a call from a woman to inform me I was in the will and had gotten it and a portion of the money he had. Most of my family was mad that I was only seventeen and got it. I was "too young to claim it " a couple of days till my eighteenth birthday, so does it matter? I think not.

Shuffling out of the bathroom over to my nightstand. My phone went off.

      Unknown caller

In a swift motion, the phone was picked up and placed next to my ear. "Hello" my voice came out quietly. "Hello, miss lin?" It was the woman from yesterday. "Yes miss Jax? Is something wrong?" My voice came out louder this time. While on the call I clicked speaker to grab my jacket and bag. "Oh no, I was just letting you know I have the keys to your grandparent's house you can come by and pick them up" In a fluid motion my jacket was on and so was my bag. "Oh that's great I'll be by today to get them then"I answered while looking around my room for my keys to my truck. "Okay miss well I'll see you then have a good day" click the phone signaled that call was over. I quickly grabbed my key and wallet and opened my bedroom door to hear talking from downstairs.

Walking downstairs I saw my mom and dad talking. "She shouldn't have gotten it I should have..lousy bitch" my mom said with venom. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed an apple and walked to the front door. "Have a good day mom dad" I didn't wait for a response I walked out and into the driveway. I could see my breath in the air. my mother is very abusive towards me. name-calling, hitting, not taking care of me it doesn't matter to me though I don't care about her I want her dead.  my father isn't around much.

Unlocking my truck I shove my things into the passenger seat. '...I'm not going to school' the truck purred while I pulled out the driveway and down the road towards Miss Jax's office.

9:30 a.m read my phone as I got out and walked to the building.  grabbing my phone from my pocket I dailed the schools' number. "hello this is peak high school" the front lady said. I was always told I sound like my mother let's use that. ''hi this is max lin's mother im calling to say she wont be in today.'' typing was heard over the line. "okay ill marker her as absent have a good day" click. she hung up.
