Adeline's pov

I put zoey's car seat in the car and Oliver grabbed an extra blanket and pillow incase she got cold. I looked at Zander who rolled his eyes at his beta. I smiled Zoey, "we are going to see Mimi, Pops, nana and papa before we leave, okay?"  She nodded. But first the cemetery...

As we pulled up to the cemetery I gave Zoey a small smile, "are you sure you want to do this?" She nodded, "yes." Oliver took her out of the car and carried her. Zander grabbed my hand and kissed my cheek. We walked over to the head stone that read :

I bit my lip and sat down in front of the head stone and pulled Zoey into my lap. She whispered, "will you talk to them first?" "You sure?" She nodded. I smiled, "Hey Emmy, Car. It's been a crazy few days." I tickled Zoey's sides and she giggled, "my mate decided he was going to show up and take me home." Zander huffed, "correction I was protecting her while I was away." I waved him off, "I am having a conversation. Do you mind?" He scoffed, "no." I rolled my eyes, "see. You would like him. He's a big softy." Zoey giggled. I smiled at her, "you left us with one of the best gifts we could ever ask for. I know it's not what you planned but she found her mate in Zander's beta. She decided she wanted Zander and I to adopt her so she could be closer to Oliver. I promise I won't let her forget you. She'll always know about you." I smiled, "Jackson has claimed the title of favorite uncle for a second time. Don't worry Carter, he won't let her become a nerd."

Zoey giggled, "Uncle Jack is silly." I smiled at her, "mhm." She ran her fingers over mine, "hiya mommy and daddy," she sniffed, "I miss you. A bunch. Addie and Zander are gonna protect me now so I won't be able to visit as much." She got out of my lap and laid on the growing grass. She sighed, "I love you." I blinked away my tears. I felt chills run over me. Not the chills I get from Zander but chills of a presence surrounding us. It was warm and welcoming. I sighed. Zander sat next to me and rested his head on my shoulder, "she's going to be okay." I nodded, "I know."

30 minutes later Zoey who was now sitting in Oliver's lap smiled, "I'm ready to go now." I looked at the 4 year old and smiled, "you okay?" She nodded, "I'm okay." She smiled, "they are always with me." I smiled and nodded, "forever." She smiled, "I know." Oliver kissed her head and stood up. I laced my fingers with Zander's  and smiled at him, "next stop." He nodded, "next stop."

Nana and papa's (Carter's parents)

Zoey ran up to the door and knocked a few times. Jameson answered the door, "there's my favorite grandpup." Zoey giggled, "I'm your only grandpup!" He chuckled and waved her off, "yay yay yay." Maria ran into the room, "Adeline! Zoey!" I smiled, "Hey Maria." She rushed over to us and hugged us, "You said you had news." I bit my lip, "lots of news." Zoey nodded, "Big news." Maria raised an eyebrow, "oh?" She looked behind us, "Alex? Oliver?" Zander chuckled, "Hey Maria." Oliver let out a shaky laugh, "hiya Maria. Jameson." Jameson raised an eyebrow, "why is he being weird?" Zoey rolled her eyes, "Because he put together that you were my daddy's parents on the car ride over here and has been like this the entire time." Oliver huffed, "Zoey! You trader." Zoey giggled, "you're being silly." He pouted, "nope." Maria raised an eyebrow, "what is going on." Oliver sighed, "I found out this morning that Zoey is my mate. I was coming to check on how things were going with Alex and Addie when I saw her." Zoey turned around and smiled at him. He smiled back, "that's when everyone started walking in. It was originally just Zoey and Stacie but Jackson and the guys all came in and I got protective and territorial. I picked her up and here we are..." Maria sighed, "well there's that. I'm assuming there's more considering Alex and Addie are here acting like they are completely in love and proud parents." I bit my lip, "you know how Jackson was trying to adopt her?" Maria and Jameson both nodded. Zoey bit her lip, "they let me decide if I wanted Zander and Addie to adopt me or Stacie and Jackson to adopt me." Jameson smiled, "you choose Alex and Addie... err Zander and Addie..." Zander let out a soft growl, "only my girls get to call me that." I rolled my eyes, "oh hush." Zoey giggled. She went into the kitchen and grabbed her stool and went to her snack cabinet and grabbed her favorite treat. I rolled my eyes. "Zoey," she huffed, "what? Papa said I could." I looked at Jameson who shrugged, "let me enjoy the little moments of being a grandpa!" I rolled my eyes, "are you okay with this?" Maria looked at me and sighed, "you and emery were more like sisters then best friends. We were surprised when they made Jackson her legal guardian and not you. We know that you and Jackson know what's best for that little girl. Since the day she was born Jackson has coined the favorite uncle. The adoption would have been really hard on him and her." Jameson smiled, "You and Alex will be amazing parents to her and that's all we could really ask for." He turned his attention to Oliver, "if you so much as make her whimper I will be there and I will cut off your reproductive organs before you can blink, you got that?" Zander chuckled, "believe me Jameson, I'll be there right along with you. except the torture might be a little more creative." Oliver gulped, "g-guys, she's my life. I won't hurt her or let anything happen to her." Zoey huffed, "Ollie." His eyes got huge, "Yes, Angel?" He quickly ran out of the room and into the kitchen.

Zander chuckled, "we don't have to be worried about him." Jameson chuckled, "oh no. He's a good kid. It's just fun to mess with him." I shook my head. Maria smiled, "You will visit, right?" Zander nodded, "yes and your always welcome to visit us as well. We want Zoey to have as much family around as possible. She will know how much she is loved." Jameson smiled, "Good. That's all that pup needs." Oliver came out caring Zoey who was snuggled into his chest. She yawned and snuggled closer to him. Maria sighed, "okay. We'll say our goodbyes now." Zoey let Oliver put her down and hugged both her grandparents and said her goodbyes before she lifted her arms for Oliver. He picked her up and we left.

45 minutes later.

I sighed as we pulled up to emery's house, "this is going to be interesting." Oliver got Zoey out of the car while Zander and I walked up the steps with Oliver and Zoey following. I knocked and the door flung open. Standing before me was Bristol, emery's mom. She teared up, "Addie." I smiled, "hi." she looked behind me and frowned, "w-we can't." I frowned, "Bristol, I know this is hard for you but she's your granddaughter. Please, she needs you to be involved. My mate and I adopted her after finding out her mate is his beta. We are leaving right after this." She shook her head, "r-Ray and I can't do this. S-she's just a reminder if what we lost. J-just like you." I frowned, "Oliver, can you take her to the car please." Oliver nodded and rushed to the car. As soon as I heard the door close I huffed, "She is a baby. Her parents just died-." "MY pup and son-in-law died." I growled, "I know that. Bristol, W-we both might be a reminder of what you lost but we are also a reminder that Emery lived." I pointed to the plants, "that she loved gardening and we would spend hours playing in the dirt and planting those flowers. Or that swing that we begged Ray to put up so we could swing into the lake. Or her bedroom which I know you haven't gone in since she died. The bedroom we spent hours painting and decorating only for her to find out Carter was her mate three days later. When we weren't here we were at my house. We spent every waking hour together and yeah she was your daughter but she was my sister. So don't tell me what you lost because I know what you lost. I feel it every day. I love Zoey all the more for it. Because she is this perfect little mix of Emery and Carter. She's Emery's mini me with Carter's personality and it's great. She reminds me so much of them and the thought that I might replace them kills me but I know that they would only want her to be happy. To be loved. You have my number if you want to talk to her. Goodbye, Bristol." We walked down the steps. She huffed, "you know what. You are right. For both of your entire life you spent every minute together. Every fucking second. I lost out on so much mother daughter time because you were there or she was with you. So screw you, Adeline." I bit back a sob, "I'm sorry. But I wouldn't take back a second with her. Just like I know she wouldn't if the tables were turned." "Your replacing her in that pups life." I growled, "That Pup has a name and she is your granddaughter. I'm not replacing Emery. I'm keeping her memory alive I'm loving her Pup like my own. I'm sorry you hate us so much. When you change your mind we will be willing to move forward." I grabbed Zander's hand and walked away. Zander whispered, "you did good." I bit my lip, "did I?" He kissed my head, "she's hurting. She'll come around. We just have to protect our pup from getting hurt in the process." I nodded.
