Fishlegs panicked, "Plus five-speed?" The boy asked.
You let out a sigh, "A shield!" You said running towards one that was on the ground near you. You turned around to see Hiccup looking around for a shield. You then noticed the Gronckle preparing to fire at you and the boy. You quickly tackled Hiccup and pulled him behind the shield. You ducked under the shield as the Gronckle shot at you. It clipped over your shield barely missing you.
The boy sent you a look of gratitude before you pulled away, preparing to fight the dragon.
"Shields! Go! Your most important piece of equipment is your shield! If you must make a choice between a sword or a shield, take the shield!" Gobber grabbed a shield and handed it to Hiccup.
You glanced over and saw Ruffnut and Tuffnut fighting over a shield. You rolled your eyes before seeing the Gronckle fire at them, it hit the shield spinning them around. The two hit the ground.
"Tuffnut, Ruffnut, you're out!" Gobber said, leaving the two confused, "Those shields are good for another thing: noise! Make lots of it to throw off a dragon's aim!"
You decided that the best way to make lots of noise was to hit your spear against your shield. You noticed the other teens did the same. The Gronckle grew disoriented, taking a longer time than usual to recover.
"All dragons have a limited number of shots. How many does a Gronckle have?" Gobber asked.
Snotlout looked around confused, "Five?" He asked, "Are we supposed to know this?"
Fishlegs pointed to the air, "No, six!"
"Correct, six! That's one for almost each of you!" Gobber said as Fishlegs got shot at, "Fishlegs, out." You glanced over and noticed Hiccup hiding behind some planks, "Hiccup, get in there!" Gobber exclaimed.
Snotlout moves in between you and Astrid, "So, anyway I'm moving into my parents' basement. You should come by sometime to work out. You two look like you work out!"
The two of you jumped out of the way as the Gronckle fired at him.
"Snotlout. You're out!" Gobber yelled.
Hiccup ran over in between you and Astrid, "So... I guess it's just me and you guys?" Astrid and you shared a look as you saw the dragon fly towards you.
"Nope just you." You said as Astrid and you ran away. The Gronckle shot, sending Hiccup's shield flying. It rolled off, Hiccup went running after it.
Gobber looked up, "One shot left!" Said the man. Hiccup turned around, suddenly cornered by the dragon, "Hiccup!" The man called.
The dragon aims, preparing to fire. You panicked for a second, if Hiccup got hurt you wouldn't be able to do dragon training anymore. Gobber reached over, pulling back on the dragon. The dragon shot right above Hiccup's head. The boy cowered, covering his head with his arms.
"And that's six! Go back to bed, ya overgrown sausage!" Gobber said, pulling the dragon away before redirecting his attention to Hiccup, "You'll get another chance, don't you worry. Remember: a dragon will always -- always -- go for the kill."
Hiccup and you shared a quick look.
"Well, that's enough training for today. I'll see you all again tomorrow." Gobber said. You brushed yourself off and looked over your spear, making sure that there were no chips or breaks on it. After looking back up you spotted Hiccup making his way towards the exit. You let out a groan before following.
"Where are you going?" Astrid asked, "We were all gonna head to the hall and get some food." The blonde girl spoke up.
You let out a sigh, "I wish... unfortunately I have to babysit." You said, gesturing to Hiccup.
"Why don't you just lock him in his house or something?" The girl asked.
You pressed your lips together, "It's no use."
Astrid nodded, gesturing to the way he left, "We'll you might wanna catch him. It seems he's runoff." She said.
You turned around, noticing that he was gone, and let out a huff, "Wow. This kid can run." You said before following him. You saw him running towards the woods, you followed closely and caught up to him quickly. You reached out and pinned the boy against a tree, "Hiccup. Why do you always run off?" You asked, "Do you think I'm gonna try and stop you from going?"
The boy nodded, "Yeah... isn't that the whole reason my dad told you watch me?"
"No. He only wanted me to protect you. He never said I couldn't let you go anywhere." You paused, letting out a frustrated breath, "Now listen. I don't care where you go, as long as you tell me first and don't run off." You leaned back, unpinning him and running your hand through your hair.
Hiccup's eyes widened, "Oh." He sent you a small smile, "Okay. Well, right now," He began, pulling out his journal, "I'm gonna figure out why that dragon didn't kill you."
