He explained that he hadn't expected the Weasleys to attempt to use the Floo Network to bring him to the Burrow, and considering the Dursleys had an electric fire rather than an actual fireplace, things inevitably got a bit messy. And that was even before Fred had "accidentally" dropped a Ton Tongue Toffee, one of the twins' new experimental inventions, knowing Harry's cousin would eat it and end up with a four foot long tongue. Harry, Ron and the twins had come back to the Burrow in fits of hysterical laughter, but their fun was cut short when Arthur returned, angry and mortified at the boys' antics. He'd had to carry out the necessary damage control and of course he'd told Molly, who, unsurprisingly, exploded at the twins and scolded them for their reckless behaviour.
When Harry went to chat with Ron, Hermione and Ginny, you walked ahead to catch up with Cedric. He grinned at you as you joined his side, "hey, Y/N."
"Hey, Cedric. How's your summer been?" you asked him cheerily.
"It's been quite good actually, I went travelling with mum and dad, which is why I haven't been able to owl you as much as I was hoping to," he trailed off, running a hand nervously through his hair.
You waved him off, "don't worry about it! As you've probably heard, I've been more than occupied over the last while," you nod towards the group behind you, consisting of the twins who were poking fun at Ron, while Ginny, Harry and Hermione laughed hysterically.
Cedric laughed at that, and then his face grew a bit more serious, "actually I've been doing some thinking since school finished for the summer, and I was wondering, well more like hoping-" Cedric who was usually very eloquent with his words cringed at himself and trailed off. You didn't say anything, though, giving the boy a chance to speak. He cleared his throat, gathering himself, "I was wondering if you would like to hang out sometime, just the two of us?"
You raised your eyebrows at him, confused "like we normally do between classes we have together?"
Cedric shook his head, "no, not in the school, and with no homework or essays either. Honestly Y/N I- I enjoy spending time with you so..." he trailed off again nervously, you could see a blush staining his cheeks.
"Cedric Diggory, are you asking me on a date?" you smirked at him.
"I suppose I am, but only if you want to! And it can be just as mates too, if you want," his eyes grew wide and he looked at you with panic in his eyes.
You linked your arm with his, "I'd like that, Cedric." He looked at you with surprise, "you would?"
You nodded and grinned at him, "I really would."
He shook his head again, smiling shyly, "the Three Broomsticks?"
Your cheeks were growing sore from all the smiling you were doing, but you couldn't help it, "it's a date."
"How much farther?" Ron whined loudly from behind you, which pulled your attention from the conversation with Cedric.
"We're here now, Ron, look," Arthur pointed ahead of the group, where an old boot was sitting in the middle of an empty field which, you assumed, was the Portkey.
---
Using the Portkey was thankfully not as complicated as you thought it would be. However the process of landing was a different story, which was painfully emphasised as your back hit the grass with a thud, winding you. Your elbow hit something, which you learned after hearing a yelp of pain beside you, was George's stomach. At least you think it was his stomach, and you apologised profusely as you helped him to his feet. He waved you off and insisted he was fine, though he walked a bit funny for a few minutes after that.
