you took it, and god he shook hands hard.
you almost fell over but you caught yourself by the tip of your toes.
he let out a laugh. "hi human! charlie, isn't it?"
you nodded, a smile permanent on your face.
"well, howdy. i'm asgore!"
you paused.
asgore.. toriel.. their child was literally just named after a combination of their names, but it sounded nice so you paid no mind.
asgores voice was way deeper than you anticipated, but he was a kind dad figure. so it made sense.
he seemed like the type to ask to play catch with his son. you supposed that was just a given that dads did though.
as he let go, you were slightly dissapointed at how cold your hand felt but you moved on from the subject.
you walked with the family to the main room, which had another room leading onto it with a longer table. you assumed this would be where you would eat and discuss manners with the goat family.
"we are glad to have you over. it's been a while since we've had anyone visit, we have a few family friends. but even they are very shelled individuals. but you seem kind." toriel spoke from her heart as she took the pie from the table and cut it into fourths all the while asgore was pouring tea into cups.
you felt bad not being able to help out, but you were a guest. so they would probably discourage against you offering help.
"how has life been treating you?" you glanced over to asgore as he spoke, rubbing the back of your neck. "eh.. not the best. the only good I've had on the surface was being accepted as a researcher."
toriels purple eyes seemed to light up more than you thought was ever possible, a sinking feeling in your stomach at the sudden change though you did not know why.
"we know someone who was in a very similar position as you, who is now what you all would refer to as the monster scientist."
your eyelids batted, a monster scientist? basically your roles were the same but switched.
they probably knew all about monster souls! there was your lead.
"so about this monster..."
toriel and asgore paused, looking to each other before toriel seemed to smile, speaking onward.
"wing ding gaster, though we all call him gaster." his name was very interesting to say the least, he was named after a font...
"he's a skeleton monster, we believe he's a perseverance trait. although there is so many interesting factors about him and we ourselves have tried to grow closer to him but he's very secretive. even though we've all known each other for years, he still seems so hesitant."
"i'm absolutely sure you will, dear." she spoke softly, you noticed the smaller child grabbing at her dress with his soft paws and staring up at you. he was atounded just as well as her.
this week was definitely going to be a long one.
hey. maybe you'd get lucky and meet gaster too. hopefully, if the timing was right.
you were still not exactly sure about how it would all go, but there was something there that told you it would all be alright and work out well.
you all sat down and ate, drinking your tea and talking in the warmth of the fire not far from you all. the soft scent of cinnamon butterscotch remained in your nose, this place felt lovely.
strangely, it also felt more home than your home.
it was.... nice. they treated you like family.
"charlie, we've been meaning to ask something of you." asgore spoke calmly, looking to toriel as she nodded back.
"i am.. aware the agency you work for is not supposed to dispose information. but we know you are financially struggling as of recently and we'd like to ask if you'd like to stay here." his eyes were warm, welcoming as he carefully took your hand in his paw with a soft smile.
"not permanantly, do not feel as if you have to remain or even accept this offer. but it's the least we could do if you are going to be working so hard to help the humans understand us more."
you looked to toriel, and she nodded curtly.
asriel seemed to be holding his breath, you couldn't tell if he meant it in a good way or a bad way, but there was only one way to find out.
"as long as.. I am not a bother to your lively schedules. I suppose I could stay with you all, if you do not mind?"
you spoke sincerely, it did not seem like a bad idea to stay with the goat family for at least the time being.
they were nice, and welcoming.
at least to you so far, and you would feel horrible discarding such a nice offer.
"if I am of any disturbance, tell me and i would start looking for a new place almost immediately. the last thing I want is to cause trouble."
toriel waved her hand in disagreement. "oh nonsense! we'd be glad to have you with us."
asriel let out a squeal of excitement, happily bouncing out of his chair and over to you as he grabbed your hands.
asgore went back to his seat, the two parents watching their child.
"yay! charlies staying!"
you laughed at his joy, it was nice to see someone still with purity.
"would you show me human magic some time soon? I've always wondered what it looks like, especially your red trait, I've never seen anything like it!"
that little- he was observant. wasn't he?
but he was just like you in a way.
"aw. I'd be honored, as long as your parents say it's okay." you ruffled his soft head of hair and looked over to the goats.
toriel let out a soft sigh of acceptance, a smile at her sons excitement.
"alright asriel, as long as you two are very careful. i suppose I would not mind it."
he smiled a wide grin, staring directly at you with a contagious happiness that struck you too.
this week was going to be a fresh breath of air. that's for sure.
