Aether's pov:

I lay in bed at wangshu inn, the events of the day continuously playing in my head on loop.

Why did my sister suddenly agree to staying just because she learnt that I had a lover? I mean... when we used to travel together, she was always going on about how she loved and cared for me so much, did she think i felt so unloved that the minute i mentioned i had a lover she agreed to stay here?

As hard as she tries to be a villian, she will always play the overprotective sister role better.

I push all my thoughts away and turn to Xiao.
Hes not there.

What? He was resting just a minute ago, where could he be?

Getting up from bed, I walk towards the balcony. Something draws me there.

I walk out to see Xiao staring over it at the trees and landscape below.

"Xiao...?"

He exhales and hums gently, still mesmerised by the night view.

"Wangshu inn and the scenery around it truly is beautiful. It's such a peaceful place to take your final breaths."

"I agree, but where did this come from? You're not going to die soon are you?"

"As long as a Yaksha Adepti lives, they will continue to suffer, fighting their Karmic debt more and more each day, until it finally grows too much. In this sense, my suffering or the pain of the people around me will never end by the universes hands alone."

Xiao is starting to creep me out, hes never this calm or lost in thought. Nor has he ever acted this strangely.

"What do you mean?-"

Xiao uses his hands resting on the balcony to push himself up onto the tall ledge. He turns towards me.

"What i mean is, in order to keep you safe, i'll have to end this myself."

With a final inhale,

He lets himself fall.

Nobodies pov:

It takes a minute for the poor boy to process what just happened, but eventually he collapses, sliding down to the floor and bringing his knees to his chest.

Then, the tears start falling.

One by one, each tear having a painful sob or whimper followed shortly after.

This same cycle continues for hours upon hours.

2 days later:
Xiao's pov:

My eyes open at the sound of water being poured and a humid mist around me.
I open my eyes to see that I am laying on what appears to be a couch while a man is pouring tea next to me.

"Ah, Alatus. You're awake."

"Rex?-"

"Please, call me Zhongli."

My head spins but i keep a hand to my forehead to ground myself.

Zhongli finishes pouring the tea and slides a cup towards me. It is sitting on a saucer decorated with violetgrasses. The precious china clinks when he pushes it.

I pick the cup up and take a sip, the tea burns my throat slightly but the warm and sweet taste of calla lily lingering in my mouth makes it all worth it.
