Once I had managed to catch my breath, I leaned over to the bedside table, grabbing a tissue. Removing the condom, I wiped myself down, pulled on my pants and shirt, and treaded to the opened bathroom door.
Her head tilted into the water stream as the suds washed down her bare body. Brown hair covering most of her back, I could still see the black scaled wings poking through, confirming what I thought I saw before.
"That tattoo," I found myself whispering.
Her movements came to a pause, eyes opening as she turned to stare at me.
She couldn't be... it was impossible.
"What about it?" she asked, voice wavering.
"It's... really nice," I replied, forcing a grin onto my face. I had to be careful how I approached this. I couldn't jump to conclusions in case she really did just get a coincidentally similar tattoo.
"Thanks," she mumbled, seeming somewhat squirmy under my watch.
"Where'd you get it?" I then pressed.
"Just some place. I don't think you could get one there."
"Why not?"
"They are... They closed down, I think."
"That's a shame. Where did you get it though anyway?"
"Oh just... a place."
"In Ireland?"
She paused again, glancing at me, fear in her eyes.
I took another step into the bathroom, leaning against the doorframe.
"Good guess," she eventually replied, loading her hands up with soap, now gingerly washing herself. Even from across the room, I could hear her heart starting to race. She was nervous.
"In Donegal?" I then tried.
I could hear her gulp. Her heartbeat quickened even more. "Yeah," she breathed.
I took another step towards her, sitting on the closed toilet lid so that I could observe her reactions more closely.
She had stopped trying to wash herself altogether, eyes fixated on mine. Challenging me. Scared of me. Threatening me.
"At Raphoe Castle?"
"How do you know?" she asked, voice becoming venomous.
Taking a deep breath, I shut my eyes, leaned back against the wall and breathed, "Olivia is also a Terra Fairy."
The water turned off and her heart rate began to slow. I listened to her grab the towel off the rack as she wrapped herself up, stopping in front of me.
Slowly opening my eyes, I turned my gaze up at her.
"Olivia... that's the girl?"
I nodded.
Her eyes turned sad as they bored into mine. "How did you find out what she is?"
Reaching out, I grabbed her hand in mine. To answer her question, I asked, "Do you turn them off or something?"
"Turn what—" But then it clicked in. All at once, I felt a familiar, gentle electrical current running through me, causing my eyes to scrunch up.
Her hand immediately pulled out of mine as she stumbled backwards. "You're a—"
"Yes. Vampire and witch. But I assure you, I'm no threat."
She shook her head slowly, eyes beginning to flicker around the room for her escape. Her heart rate drummed at a rapid rate.
