The brunette arrived at home a long time ago. George sat at the dining table, completely zoned out. The front door closed, Karl was home. It snapped George out of it.
"Hey" Karl said as he set all of his belongings on the counter.
"Hi" George said, as he played with a random pencil.
Karl took a seat in front of George "How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine."
"No your not George, you got attached to another colleague and they ended up leaving" Karl said.
"But what if he's different and I just don't know it" George said, and he looked at Karl "You knew this whole time didn't you?"
"I did, one day I went to Clays house we hang out and he told me" Karl said.
"What about Nick or Tegan?" George said.
"They knew."
George sighed in disappointment "I'm so stupid."
"Your not stupid, your one of the smartest people I know" Karl looked at George "He's only human."
"I know that, but I was stupid enough to let him get to me" George said "And now I have to let him go."
"How do you feel about knowing?"
"I knew something was wrong but once he told me it was like-"
"All the facts added up?"
"Exactly" George said "I went to his house, thinking I could catch him before he leaves."
"And he's actually gone, the place was spotless even Tegan went with him."
"George you should get some rest" Karl said.
"Yeah that's probably for the best."
1 month later...
Clay has been gone for a month, and rumors are going on about him throughout the office. It killed George, but he slowly started to get over it. The brunette sat in his desk chair and he faced the old desk. No one Clay placement yet, and the name plate was still in the trash.
Should I pick it up?
George ignored it and started to turn on his computer, it was two more weeks till the awards. It was coming up so soon. The plumber grabbed Clays garbage with the nameplate, it was gonna go in the trash a George watched. The brunette stood up and walked towards the plumber.
"Wait."
The plumber turned around and looked at George, and the brunette looked at him. What am I doing?
"Yes?" The plumber said.
"I'm sorry I'm just gonna quickly grab this" George grabbed the nameplate with Clays name on it "I'm sorry about that."
"It's okay, have a nice day" The plumber walked away.
George looked at the name plate, Clay...
The brunette looked at the nameplate and it was still shiny, then he walked back to his desk. George sat in his chair and stared at the name plate. He looked at the empty desk, trying to imagine Clay was there but he couldn't. Because Clay wasn't there.
"You'll be fine, it's just another colleague" George said as he put in one if his drawers "How can he be any different?"
George sat up and started to finish the story he was working on...
Karl and Nick were beside each other watching the brunette type on his computer like crazy "Your right Karl, he really does miss him."
"You have to admit it Nick, those two have some chemistry" Karl said "Chemistry you can't deny."
"After hiring Clay, I knew he would be a good fit for Parkway" Nick said "Even if his dad was a killer, I swore to keep his secret."
"You guys are all like sons to me, Clay was the one who kept this family complete."
"And now that's he's gone I don't want any more people to take that spot, cause in the end George will end up miserable" Nick said.
"But Clays different, even if I've only known him for a few months" Karl said "He doesn't just give up."
"He keeps on going, for example he annoys the fuck out of George" Karl said "And he kept on going, he doesn't stop."
"And that's why Clays different from everyone else, he didn't tell George his secret because he knew this would end up happening."
"You Clay is meant to be here, with George" Karl said "He's George missing puzzle piece."
"Your right Jacobs, but he isn't coming back" Nick said "So we're gonna have to unfortunately let it go."
"I'm sorry but I can't convince Clay to come back, he has to make that decision in his own."
Karl sighed "I wonder how Clay is doing."
"Hopefully better then Davidson, now we both have work to do so let's get to it."
"Okay Nick" Karl said, as he walked away. Only if there was a way...
"Wait- hey Nick!"
——-
George arrived home for the day, he locked the door behind him and put his keys in the lock holder.
"Oh good your home."
Karl came out with a huge suitcase, specifically George's suitcase. Was Karl trying to kick George out of the house?
"Karl what are you doing with my suitcase?"
"Okay so I packed all of your things" Karl said.
"Are you trying to kick me out of the house?" George asked.
"No, no, not at all" Karl realized he sounded really suspicious right now "George."
"You can't be here right now" Karl said, George looked at him.
"Why?"
"Because you need to be with him" Karl said, and the brunette knew who he was talking about.
"No I don't Karl, I'm fine" George said "He left and I got over it."
"Then why do you still have his nameplate?" Karl asked.
"Stop treating me like I lost my best friend okay Im sick of it!" George yelled.
"George I'm treating you like this because you did lose your best friend!" Karl yelled back "Now for being one of your childhood friends-"
"I am telling you to go after him, because your miserable right now" Karl said.
"I don't even know where he is."
"George your not stupid, we both know exactly where he is."
Karl was right, George is not stupid...
"Okay I'll go" George said "But one for a week."
"I guarantee he won't even wanna see me, he doesn't wanna see anybody from here."
"Well you won't know till you go there" Karl rolled the suitcase towards him "And convince him to come him to come back before the awards."
"I'll leave tomorrow morning, for now let me get some rest" George said "Wait what about Nick?"
"Oh he already knows, I told him" Karl said.
"Your fucking crazy" George said.
Karl did one of his little dances as he chuckled "I know I am!"
