A hidden love

JJ's POV

I woke up before Maddie and saw her facing me now cuddling against me smiling in her sleep. She looks so cute when she's sleeping. I leaned down and kissed her forehead and just as I did our phones rang. I quickly grabbed my phone trying to answer it before it woke Maddie up but as I said "hello" Maddie started to wake up. I finished talking to Hotch and I looked down as Maddie rubbed her eyes.

"Do we have to go in now?" She asked making a sad face at me.

"I'm afraid so"

"UGH" 

We both got up and quickly got ready and left to go to the station sitting in the car the same as the day before. As we left the hotel parking lot I watched as Maddie yawned and laid her head on my shoulder. I smiled to myself and put my head on hers.

Maddie's POV

I don't know why JJ made me feel so safe but she did I don't trust people often but it was different with her. Everything seemed so easy with her. As we pulled up to the station I felt JJ rub my leg to "wake me up" I thought it was sweet so I lifted my head and looked at her with the same look I gave her when she said we had to come in.

"Come on" She told me laughing

Once we got in JJ walked away and came back a few minutes later and handed me a coffee and gave me a small smile. I think I'm starting to develop feeling for JJ this was new for me so I can't say for sure if I am or not. I was confused though because I was always told when you like someone you're supposed to get butterflies and get nervous but with JJ all I feel is safe and warm. Plus she's my mom's best friend would she think... what would JJ think?

"Hey you okay?" I heard JJ ask me bringing me out of my thoughts

"Yeah all good" I gave her a smile and drank my coffee

*time skip*

JJ's POV

After a long day we finally caught the unsub we would stay one more night at the hotel and then tomorrow morning we would head back to the BAU. While heading back to the hotel I could tell something was bothering Maddie but I didn't know what. I put a hand on her leg and she looked at me I mouthed "are you okay?" to her so Rossi and Emily wouldn't hear she smiled at me and nodded her head. I gave her a quick smile and started to take my hand away but as I tried she grabbed it and just held it.

For the rest of the drive I just kept thinking to myself about her I couldn't understand what I was feeling. It felt as though I was starting to have a little crush on her... my best friends daughter. Ive had a feeling Maddie might have a crush on me but I didnt know for sure but how would I even tell Emily that. She would kill me.

I was brought out of my trance when Maddie squeezed my hand letting me know he had arrived. As we were heading up to the rooms Emily asked if she could talk to me real quick so her and I headed to her room while Maddie went to ours. I was freaking out now did she know how I felt was she gonna yell at me? When we got to the room Emily started laughing.

"Whats funny?" I asked her with a puzzled look

"You" she told me

"Me? How?"

"Youve been so protective over Maddie since she came"

"Oh I guess" I was starting to stumble over my words now.

"I'm not mad Jay I wanted to say thank you I feel like I can relax a little more knowing if something were to ever happen to me she would have you." Emily started to tear up

"Em listen to me nothing is going to happen to you okay."

"I know I know but better safe than sorry right."

"Yeah."

"Alright well that's what I wanted to talk to you about"

"Okay I'm going to head to bed then goodnight Emily"

"Goodnight JJ and again thank you."

"Of course Emily it's what friends are for."

Maddie's POV:

While I was waiting for JJ to get back I started thinking of what it would be like to be with JJ. Holding her hand in the car just felt so right this didn't feel like a regular crush it felt stronger than that. I began to think about what it would be like to kiss her. but before I really could JJ came back to the room It startled me and I jumped a little.

"You okay?" JJ asked me.

"Yeah I'm fine you know that seems to be a common question between us." I tell her making her smile.

"I guess I just wanna make sure you feel okay." she told me stepping closer to me.

"So what did you and my mom talk about."

"You." she told me still walking closer I was starting to get nervous.

"Oh what about me."

"well I thought she had busted me but turns out she wanted to thank me for being there for you."

"Busted you? For what." I asked she was now inches from me.

"For wanting to do this." 

JJ's POV

With that I was kissing her my best friends daughter. I don't know what came over me but I couldn't not kiss her. I was expecting her to pull away but she kissed me back. We continued kissing util we both ran out of air we both pulled back gasping for air.

"Wow." I heard her whisper still gasping for air.

"What?" I asked

"That was my first kiss." 

"Really? I would have never guessed." I told her kissing her

"Come on we gotta get up nice and early tomorrow." I told her breaking apart once more

She groaned in protest but I ignored her we got into bed facing each other and I held on to her and we both drifted to sleep.
