Wait by the Maple Tree

I met her there, right under that tree
I never thought that every single bit of her
would be this special and important to me.
She's so adorable, petit and sweet
and before she leaves, she says
"Wait by the maple tree."

Today, like yesterday
at this time, like before,
we met under the tree.
She was bright, as if kissed by the sun.
Coincidentally, as this thought crossed my mind,
it began to rain
and before she leaves, she says
"wait by the maple tree."

Then slowly, all at once
just like every other day before,
she became mine and I became hers.
For a second, something felt wrong
But I ignored it
Because she was fine,
because she was happy.
We continued to laugh, shared a strong connection
I gave her love and sweet affection.
A melody erupts, it's her mother on the phone.
Their voices were faint as if something was wrong.
I couldn't help but worry,
she says "everything's fine."
Before she leaves, she kisses my cheek and says
"Goodbye."

I hadn't heard from her after that,
I couldn't get in touch.
It's been a while, you know?
I've never been scared so much.
What is she not telling me?
Why the rush?
What is she not telling me?
Why the hush?
The silence is killing me, I just want to see her
waiting by the maple tree.

It's been a few weeks and I've nearly given up,
and in that moment a tune makes me jump.
I reply to the message, I'm honestly happy.
She says "Can you please wait by the maple tree?"

Excited to see her, I got to the tree
but my excitement died as she turned to me.
Her eyes were filled with sadness and tears
and her face was pale, up to her ears;
her hair was gone and her lips were dry
"You'll be okay" I hug her tight
She cries harder than ever and says
"Look at me!"
I lift up her chin, but she doesn't let me.
"You're still beautiful
I don't need to look at you to know that."
She continues to cry,
It becomes less and less.
She sniffs and sighs "thank you" under her breath
her phone rings- "I have to go."
so I kiss her forehead.
I say, "smile for me."
she giggles, "I always do."
and before she leaves, I say this true:
"I'm here for you, I always will be.
I'll always wait by the maple tree."
