"He didn't even ask why..."
"Well I think it's safe to say my brother adores you." He turned and looked at her. "Maybe you should get some rest before they get here?"
Caroline scoffed, "I don't need rest, I'm a vampire."
Klaus smirked, "True, but only if you're gorging on blood, and considering how pale you are right now... that's not the case."
Caroline looked into Klaus, eyes and they shared a deep intense stare. After what felt like eternity she softly rolled her eyes and went back into the room closing the door in Klaus' face. He knew she was going to lay down though so he just let her be.
The day continued like normal while Caroline slept, the kids went back to the school, Bonnie left shortly after that, Klaus painted most of the day.
When Caroline woke up she already felt a little better. She checked her phone and realized she slept for about 11 hours and sighed since it was already after 9PM. She felt like she wasted the whole day. Luckily, she felt a presence in the bed next to her so she rolled over with her eyes closed and laid her head on Klaus's shoulder and placed her hand on his chest. Only... something was different... he smelled different, sweeter? He felt smaller? Is that... a boob? She slightly squeezed her hand around the boob to see if she was dreaming and then slowly raised her head without opening her eyes, scared of who she was going to see.
"Was that you trying to seduce me? It kinda worked." Davina grinned as soon as Caroline's eyes connected with hers.
"Oh my god, you're here!" Caroline sat up and hugged Davina at vamp speed.
"And to think Nik said you'll be in a mood." Kol said sitting across the room on a chaise.
"Oh, hi! I missed you guys!" Caroline said with tears in her eyes.
"Actually, I said-" Klaus was standing in the door and Caroline vamped to him throwing her arms around him.
"Thank you." She whispered into his neck.
"Anything for you, love." He smiled and whispered back to her.
Caroline pecked him on the lips and turned around to look at Davina who was standing now, "Let's go shopping. You have to get out though because I'm in my robe and I can't wear that in public." She grinned.
"Sort of tasty, if you ask me." Kol smirked putting his arm around Davina and escorted her out of the room.
Caroline walked into the huge walk in closet with Klaus following behind her. She walked in and grabbed a shirt on a hanger and held it up studying it closely. "What?" She said without looking at Klaus but could feel his worried eyes on her.
"I don't know how I feel about you going out on the town with Davina when your children's psychotic uncle still out and unaccounted for?" Klaus stood back as Caroline picked the rest of her outfit.
"Well, it's not really up to you." Caroline scoffed and dropped her robe to put on her clothes.
"Actually, it is up to me. Or it should be! We're sharing a house, our kids live together, and we're in a relationship! I don't get a say on where you go or when you put your life at risk?"
"Seriously? I've handled myself for this long without you." She brushed past him.
"Why are you shutting me out?" He yelled hitting the wall with his fist breaking the trim on the doorway causing Caroline to jump and stop in her tracks but she didn't turn around to look at him.
She clenched her jaw and had tears in her eyes, "Looks like you haven't changed as much as everyone thought you had." When she realized what she said she closed her eyes and tears fell down her face instantly regretting what just came out of her mouth.
"Caroline." Klaus said softly with tears filling his eyes.
She took a deep breath and then walked away. She got her composure back before she made it to the front door where Kol and Davina were standing and gave them and award winning smile. She linked her arm in Davina's and Kol opened the door for them. Kol stood at the door and watched as the 2 women got into the car, drove out of sight and then shut the door.
He turned around and saw Klaus standing at the top of the stairs, "What the hell was that?"
"That was Caroline, realizing she's too good for me." Klaus turned around to go to the room.
Kol vamped in front of Klaus earning an eye roll from the hybrid. "Not so fast brother. We're going to the bar."
"I'm not going to the bar."
"Notice how my voice didn't go up at the end of my sentence. Because it wasn't a question. Let's go."
Klaus rolled his eyes again and before he knew it he was at the Mystic Grill with Kol standing at the bar. "Ah, just like old times." Kol smiled as the bartender handed him and Klaus their drinks.
They drank for several hours and most of it was silent except for the few times Kol made an inappropriate joke.
"I'm starving." The men heard a familiar voice causing Kol to turn around and see Caroline and Davina at the door, both of which saw them too.
The women walked over to them and Kol stood to give Davina a sweet kiss. Klaus continued looking forward as Caroline sat next to him. Kol and Davina were on the other side of Klaus in their own little conversation and Caroline was staring at Klaus but he was still looking at the wall on the other side of the bar.
After several uncomfortable moments of silence Caroline leaned over towards Klaus, "Want to take a walk?" She whispered.
Klaus looked into her eyes angry at first but the second they gazed into each other's eyes his anger broke. He softly nodded his head and then looked over at Kol, "We're leaving." And he handed his car keys to Kol. He motioned for Caroline to walk in front of him and they walked out of the front door. "Where do you want to go?" He asked looking around.
"How about that bench?" She pointed towards a familiar bench across the street from the Grill.
He pursed his lips into a line and nodded his head. She walked in front of him and as she crossed the street she looked back and gave him a playful smile, "Don't almost get run over this time." Earning a tiny smirk from him.
She walked over to the bench and looked down at it. "Remember when we had our little talk here?" She glanced at him.
"I do. You didn't want anything to do with me."
"But you wanted to get to know me. No one ever asked me those questions before. Not even my best friends. My parents hadn't even put that much effort into trying to get to know me."
"I was genuinely interested."
"Why?" She completely turned her body towards him.
"I fancied you. I was falling for the one person that saw light in everything. I didn't want to be the bad guy. I wanted my family together, I wanted a friendship with Stefan and my hybrids, I wanted the chance at love... with you... And then you flat out reject me." He smiled and it quickly faded.
"I'm sorry. About earlier. I didn't mean it-"
"But you were right. I suppose I haven't changed all that much."
"Klaus, I-" Caroline was cut off by a sting of a needle pushing vervain into her body. She immediately dropped and Kai was standing behind her.
Klaus and Kai made eye contact. "Oops." Kai said and quickly grabbed Caroline and disappeared into thin air with her.
"Caroline! No!" Klaus yelled out as he watched the scene unfold in front of him.
