Chapter four: deep blue

Start from the beginning

He knew you were always in his corner and that made the world a little less scary. And just like that, his sour mood was gone. You just thought it was the magic of being his best friend. But nah, it was definitely the fact that he got attention from you and he didn't even ask for it.

But hey, he'll take his wins where he can.

You gave him one last look and you settled back in your respective spot. Aaron watched the whole thing and he wondered like always, why the hell hasn't this boy claimed you yet?

Your friendship went beyond that of best friends and everyone but the two you saw that. And sometimes, sometimes Aaron felt himself go a little crazy, it wasn't just him who saw this right?

"You're so cute when you're like this, look at you!" You go to poke his cheek but he dodged your finger and made a face of fake disgust. "Shut up!" You just rolled your eyes.

"Men are such babies."

Aaron came back into the room as if nothing happened and placed your food right in front of you. And you dived for it, face already half full with your favorite. Miles was already forgotten. It was him versus food. Of course, he was forgotten.

He got up from the couch and walked over to the punching bag laying a few hits on it, you were just happy to have your food. So you drowned the two out. When it got to this point in your visit you would usually put your earbuds in. Aaron and Miles always had a moment to themselves and you tried your best not to eavesdrop, so earbuds it is.

Miles and Aaron talked about whatever they talked about but you were solely focused on finishing your food and when you did the bathroom called your name. Springing up from the couch you dramatically go.

"Don't fall in the toilet. This time, I'll just leave you there." Miles goes on to say when he hears you get up, his eyes not leaving the punching bag.

You stuck your tongue out at him before you went, "Yes you will." And with a swirl on your feet, you quickly headed to the bathroom. Miles's head dipped as you left, "Yeah I will." He said with a small chuckle and grin.

There was a beat of silence, Aaron giving the nearing conversation time to build after your brief disappearance. He clears his throat, catching Miles's attention he glances up at the man with a questioning look on his face. He knew he was up to something.

"Smart girls is where it's at, place must be full of 'em."

Miles continued to punch the bag and act oblivious, pretending there was no one he was interested in, "Nooo, there's no one, there's no one..." He only seemed to get more aggressive when those words left his lips.

Aaron noticed.

"I can't have no nephew of mine on the streets with no game." Aaron only said this to rope him in he knew Miles was full-out in love with you but he had to pull it out of him first.

"Hey! I got game. There's a new girl actually, she's kinda into me." Miles said with a shrug falling onto the couch without care.

At that sentence, Aaron's smile drops. He says the sentence over and over in his head trying to make sense of it but fails every time, a new girl? And you were right down the hall. His head turns towards the hall to find you walking back phone in hand, smile on your face and your favorite song blasting in your ears.

You didn't hear him, yet.

"Miles man what about y'know a certain best friend of yours?" Aaron nudged the boy with a certain look only he could read.

It catches him off guard his face flushes a dark red and he stumbles over his words. "I-I what about her?!" His figure tenses and his hand finds his neck in a nervous twitch.
