Growing Up

Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a good week! 😊
The imagine I'm posting today is pretty short - and it's another Levi one as you can probably tell by the title. I haven't written anything for a while and this was one of the imagines I wrote on my laptop a while ago, so I almost forgot about it until today 😅. I'm trying to write more stories without Levi (considering that this is an Aryia X Reader book), so hopefully next week I have a Y/N and Aryia exclusive story out for you all (I'm currently working on a few now 👀). I hope you enjoy this week's imagine though! 😊

Warnings: Sick!Levi

You were becoming more and more amused with the shuffling sound of small feet outside your bedroom door as time passed. You looked up from your book every couple of minutes to see a small shadow and the ends of dark hair.

There was no doubt that he was your kid; he could be so stubborn. Levi was 8-years-old now and very determined to act older than his age; especially after the arrival of his two younger siblings - Jax and Rose.

Despite his sniffling and coughing, Levi always chose to stand out in the hallway, not quite ready to succumb to the tendencies he thought of as "childish". An example of this was sleeping with you and Aryia.

As a mother, you fondly thought back on the stages of Levi's life. When he had caught a cold for the first time he had cried throughout the entire night, leaving you, Aryia and the roommates at the KRAC House exhausted the next morning. You could still feel the relief you had felt on the day he had recovered.

When he was 2, Levi had caught the flu and had clung to your leg the entire time.

And at the age of 4, he had all but demanded to be coddled and picked up despite the fact that he was getting bigger. But now that he was a big brother, he was "too old for those kinds of things" in his own mind, and you felt a bit dejected about the whole thing.

"Levi." You broke the silence, calling out for him.

You couldn't stop the smirk that tugged at your lips and his little head poked through the gap between the door and the door frame, his eyes immediately watching the empty spot on the bed next to you.

Despite you being the more disciplinary parent, Levi tended to worry more about appearing weak in the eyes of his father. Ironic, since Aryia accepted cowardice when it was appropriate.

Shuffling across the floor, blanket in hand, Levi came to stand next to you. His cheeks were flushed and his nose was red from all of the tissues he had gone through.

You resisted the urge to roll your eyes as he waited to be invited into the bed. Placing your book down on the table, you reached out for his small hand.

"Come on then, tough guy."

Levi gave you a look of grimace that was so reminiscent of Aryia's that you chuckled out loud. Without any complaints, Levi crawled up and over you, settling next to your left side. Despite his flushed skin, he was cold to the touch, prompting you to bundle him up with the duvet and blankets.

"Mom~" He complained with a whine, his raspy voice rattling as he coughed.
Ignoring your son's attempts to remain impassive, you reached down and caressed his hair. Levi's eyes were bleary and you can see how tired he was.

"Go to sleep Levi." You told him gently.

There was nothing - except maybe video games and music - that Levi enjoyed more than sleeping. And even though he was very intent on staying strong and awake, the minute you began to rub his back, his eyes closed and he began to snore.

This was your secret weapon. As a baby, whenever he began to make a fuss, all you had to do was stroke his back or get Aryia to sing with you and he would instantly settle down.

With your motherly instincts taking over, you slipped out of bed as silently as you could to find a hot water bottle and some medicine. As any parent would, you hated seeing your child in any sort of discomfort. You wondered if you should take him back to the doctor's tomorrow.

...

You heard the front door open on your way back upstairs. You winced as it closed with a bang and instantly glared at the culprit. Aryia passed off what you supposed was an apologetic look as he took off his guitar bag and removed his shoes and jacket. Your ears strained to hear any sign of the kids being woken up, but you found none.

"Try to be quieter," You whispered, "the kids just went to sleep."

You didn't wait for his apology. Instead leaving Aryia stood there a little dumbfounded as you went back upstairs to give Levi his medicine.

You really didn't want to wake him up, but it would only be for a couple of minutes and you knew that if he took the cough medicine now, he would improve in the morning.

As expected, there was a whole lot of mumbling, grumbling and complaining from your son. However, that all stopped when his father walked in and you were able to successfully sneak the spoon of medicine into his mouth. You watched as Levi's eyes became downcast and he shuffled over more to your side to give his dad more room on the bed.

You had no problem having Levi curled up to your side, but caught Aryia giving you a questioning look. It surprised you that he misread your son's actions for resentment. Though you put it down to him being tired from working so hard with Nick and Jay since sunrise every day for the past week.

As expected, Levi soon fell asleep whilst clutching your arm. Seeing him looking so relaxed gave you a warm feeling inside. You knew that there wouldn't be many more moments like this as Levi grew older, so you decided it was best to relish in them now rather than never.

"Did I do something?" Aryia's voice broke your trail of thought.

"No." You brushed your fingers through Levi's dark hair. "He's just at that age, you know?"

"What age? Eight?"

You sighed. "He just doesn't want to be treated like a kid anymore. He's been embarrassed to sleep in the same bed as us since Jax was born, but he has a cold and he's still young, so he doesn't want to sleep alone either."

"Hmm, well, he doesn't seem too concerned with you thinking that he's being childish." Aryia pointed out, motioning to where Levi clung to your side.

You smiled affectionately. "I'm his mom." You huffed proudly in a matter-of-fact tone. "He looks up to you more anyway, that's why he always tries to act tougher than he is. Remind you of anyone?"

"I don't know what you're talking about." He smirked, eyes reflecting the nostalgia in your own.

Aryia moved closer to the two of you. Maybe he had realized how rare times like these were going to become.

"He's pretty big now."

"Don't say that." You felt your lips tug down. You always wanted Levi to stay small and dependent on you. Of course, that wasn't how the world worked, but it didn't stop you from wishing.

"You know, he's not gonna stay small forever."

Aryia never responded, maybe he was simply too tired or maybe he was thinking about how fast Levi was growing up. Soon, a second set of snores filled the bedroom.

You fondly stroked both of their heads, taking a mental picture of this moment before drifting off to sleep yourself.
