I've spent my whole life - all 117 (soon to be 118) years of it - at my dad's hotel for monsters. Monsters have been in hiding for years and years, and Hotel Transylvania is their go-to vacation spot. It's also their only vacation spot. Because of that, we're really busy year-round, but it's about to get even busier than usual. That's because my 118th birthday is coming up, and Dad's invited everyone to come to the hotel. I, meanwhile, stayed in my room and practiced how I was going to finally get Dad to let me go out to a human village that I heard is nearby.
"How are you, Mavy-Wavy?" Dad asked when he came into my room. "I'm pretty good, Dad. Can I talk to you about something?" I asked him. "Of course," he replied "Dad, you said that when I turned 118, I could go out in to the world like every other adult that gets to come and go from this hotel," I said, then I started doing an impression of him. "But Mavy-Wavy, its not safe, bleh, bleh-bleh, bleh!"
"Dad, 30 years ago you promised. I remember, we were both eating mice, and you specifically said that you gave me your word," I finished in my normal voice. "I remember that, too. You can go," he said, but I didn't register his words right away. "Aha! I knew you were gonna say that, but Dad you gave me your word. You know that I know that a Dracula's word is sacred, that our trust is the core of our... Wait what?" I asked. "I said you can go," he said, and I felt elated. "Holy rabies! Holy rabies! Thank you, Dad!" I said, hugging him tightly. "It's fine. Just be safe, honey bat," he said. I promised him that I would be safe, and then I did a backflip out of my window and let myself fall through the air before I transformed into a bat and flew out to the human village.
"Hello? Anyone here?" I asked when I got to the village, seemingly deserted. I heard something fall over, and I turned to see what it was. I noticed a human looking at me, and I went over to introduce myself. A bunch more humans appeared from inside the houses and started to form a circle around me. "Uh, hi. My name is Mavis Dracula, and I -" I began to introduce myself, then I found a pitchfork being pointed at me. They started acting like Dad had always said that humans did around monsters, and I barely escaped from the village.
"Mavy? Are you okay?" Dad asked me a bit later that night. "You were right, Dad," I said. "What?" He asked. "You were right! The humans did everything that you told me about! They had garlic! On bread!" I said with despair. "Oh, it's okay, my little poison berry. Daddy's here," Dad said, pulling me into a hug. "I'll never leave here again," I sniffled, and he comforted me with a pat on the back.
I was talking to my Aunt Wanda, Uncle Wayne's wife, the next day, when we nearly got hit by someone flying towards us on a witch's broom. "What the heck was that?" I asked. "I don't know, dear," Aunt Wanda replied. Shortly after that, I went looking for Dad to go over some things related to my birthday party. I met the eyes of some guy who looked kinda like my Uncle Frank, and I froze. He froze too, and I saw a strange pink light cross his eyes, something that I felt like I recognized. Suddenly, Dad walked up in front of me, which startled me. "Mavis! I was just looking for you!" He said. "I was just looking for you too, Dad. I wanted to talk to you about my birthday party," I said with a smile. "Hey Dracula, I -" the guy I made eye contact with earlier said, only to be cut off by Dad blocking him with his cape. "Who was that?" I asked. "Who is who?" Dad asked, trying to act like he didn't know what I was talking about. "Uh, the guy you just hid with your cape," I said. "Oh... that is, uh, nobody," Dad said with a huge, fake smile. I still had questions, but I decided to let it go for now.
"A little to the left, Uncle Frank," I said a bit later in the day, while I was helping set up my party. "How's this?" He asked after he moved left. "Perfect," I said, and there was a loud crash from behind me. I turned around and saw Dad with the guy from before, standing there awkwardly. "Hey Drac, who's your friend?" Murray asked. Dad chuckled nervously, and I remembered when I came across the two of them in my room a little bit ago.
Earlier that day...
"Dad? Are you ever gonna introduce me to your friend?" I asked. "Uh... he's..." Dad said nervously. "He kinda looks like Uncle Frank," I said. "Uh... yes. He's Uncle Frank's cousin, Harrystein," Dad said. "I'm his... cousin on his right arm's side," Harrystein said. "I didn't even know that he had a cousin," I said.
Present
"Yeah Drac, who is he?" Uncle Frank asked. "Uh, well, he's..." Dad said, and I stepped in to finish his sentence. "He's your cousin, Harrystein," I said. "On your right arm's side," Harrystein added, and Uncle Frank looked at his right arm. "You have a cousin?" He asked it. Harrystein held out his hand for Uncle Frank to shake, which he did, causing poor Harrystein to bounce up and down. "Nice to meet ya, cuz!" He said. Harrystein just kind of stumbled backwards after that, accidentally knocking over Zombie Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven in the process. While Uncle Frank's wife Aunt Eunice, along with my Uncle Wayne, helped them back to their feet, I helped Harrystein get up. "You okay?" I asked him. "Yeah, I think so. You can just call me Harry, by the way. Harrystein is a bit of a mouthful," he said. "Okay Harry," I said, trying not to blush. He was a pretty cute boy, and he's around my age, too. He's 119, so he's not much older than I am. The weird thing is, his hair is bright red for the most part, but there's a spot that's barely noticeable on the back of his head that's a very deep shade of black, kind of like my hair. "Well, I'd better head to my tent. I heard that the hotel's so busy that you don't have any rooms left, and since I got here late, I couldn't get a room," he said. "You could stay with me in my room, if you want to," I offered. "Really? You'd do that for me?" He asked. "Sure. You seem like a good guy," I said, taking his hand. "Where are you taking me?" He said nervously. "Relax, I'm just bringing you to my room. Just so you remember for later, it's room 174," I said brightly. "Room 174. Got it," he murmured to himself.
I went to my room with Harry, and he took a sleeping bag out of his backpack and unrolled it before he put it on the floor next to my bed. "You must be pretty tired after your trip here," I commented. "Yeah. I scared myself a few times. Probably the worst scare was when I was traversing a mountain and almost slipped and fell off the peak. I managed not to fall, which I guess is kind of obvious," he said, and I noticed that the sun was coming up, so I went to close the curtains in front of my balcony door. "Well, I'm gonna go to bed. See you in the evening, Harry," I said softly, seeing as Harry fell asleep. I quickly followed suit, and I had a strange dream where Harry was really a human.

I was inspired to write this story after I watched the new Hotel Transylvania movie yesterday. I liked it, even though it was kinda weird. I love the parts where Murray is a human, and he keeps falling asleep because he's like 5,000 years old, and he wakes up from his own snoring with wide eyes and says, "What's going on?" Haha, that was hilarious! Also, apparently Jim Gaffigan was the voice of Van Helsing? Amazing, the sort of things you learn when you look for them. Anyway, that's all I have right now. Until next time!
