Ch. 47: A Look into the Past (Pt. 1)

Start from the beginning

"Yeah." Yoohyeon had no idea how accurate that last statement was to Siyeon. "Are you sure I can stay here? What if it takes years before I can get back on my feet?"

"Well, I'll be with you every step of the way then. Stay for as long as you need."

Siyeon gave Yoohyeon a tight hug. "Thank you so much! How can I ever repay you?"

"Just being a good friend is enough. Now c'mon, it's almost time for dinner. Don't want to keep my mom waiting!" Yoohyeon said smiling. Siyeon smiled back and followed her downstairs to eat with her newfound family.

-6 Months Later-

" A medium caramel macchiato!" Yoohyeon yelled from the register.

"On it!" Siyeon was quick to finish the order before handing the drink over to Yoohyeon.

"There you are, ma'am. Enjoy!" Yoohyeon looked over at the receipts they kept receiving from the orders. "Did you get table 6's order?"

"Oh, Shit! I haven't. I'll go do that right now. Are you ok over here?"

"I should be." Siyeon nodded in response before going over to the table that had waited a while for their drink.

"Here you go! Ah!" In her rush to get the man his order, she slipped and ended up spilling coffee all over the front of his suit.

"I'm so sorry, sir! I'll go get something to clean that up."

"Doesn't matter, it's ruined no matter what you do. What kind of service is this?"

"I'm sorry. Is there anything we can do for you?" Siyeon apologized again. She saw that this middle-aged man looked affluent as she took a look at the damage she caused to the expensive-looking suit.

"In fact there is. Pay this off. You ruined it, your responsibility."

"What?" Siyeon was shocked by his request.

"You heard me. Take responsibility for your actions. You are going to pay this suit off."

"But sir, I don't have the money for it."

"Of course, you don't. You work at a coffee shop. That's why you're gonna work for me."

"No offense, but I don't think I shou-"

"Do you want to pay for this working here? I'd say that would be difficult." He looked at her slightly frightened face. "Oh, I get it. You think it's one of those jobs. Despite what you might think, I'm not that kind of person. I'll just have you do housework. That's all."

Siyeon thought about what would happen. If she refused his offer, she would have to find a way to pay for it. She can't refuse to pay for it either. He'd find a way to ruin everything she's worked for for the past six months. He was right, it would be impossible to pay it at her wages. With the rate she'd be going, she'd end up becoming a burden to Yoohyeon's family. She wanted the best for them for all they've done with her and something like this would probably bring them down. Maybe if she accepted, she could make enough to pay the suit off as well as have extra to get herself back on her feet and give some to Yoohyeon's family in return for their help. She didn't want to push her luck by asking more questions. He might take it back if she did. "I-... I'll do it then."

"Fantastic. I'll let you finish this shift. After that, I'll have you move into the servants living quarters at my manor tomorrow."

"I'll be living there? But what about-"

"Don't worry about your family. They'll understand. They'll be proud that you found yourself an amazing offer. I suggest not blowing off this opportunity."
