"That doesn't even make sense! Do you hear yourself?"
He scoffed and rolled his eyes making unnecessary movements with his arms. "Goodnight Amelia."
He started to walk away. "What is this room anyway spider squealer?"
He turned on one heel and gave me the most murderous look ever. And then he sprinted after me in laughter.
I screamed and ran as fast as I could laughing with him.
"You said you would never use that nickname again!" He shouted chasing after me playfully.
"Oops!" I laughed but then tripped over my foot and fell to the ground. Saints, who trips on their own foot?
He stopped in front of me looking at my body clumsily sprawled out on the floor. "Stop being dramatic, come on I'll help you up." He offered a hand.
I took it and pulled him down with me.
"Ah! I should've known!" He grunted falling beside me.
We both looked up at the ceiling. The chandelier sparkling. And the enchanting designs and paintings on the walls.
"You know, you didn't answer my question. What is this place?" I looked over at him laying on the floor next to me.
"My mother made this room. Well... she didn't make it, you know her. She just sits on her throne and looks pretty. But what I meant is she paid for it to be made.
"She wanted me to come home so she made this room full of my favorite things. If you look in the corner over there in that painting," he points to the ceiling of paint, "there's a picnic blanket with a girl with bright red hair."
"She knew about me?" I asked.
"Of course she did, I talked about you all the time. You were my best friend. Once I left... only a couple of days ago I found this room. I've gotta say it's bigger than I expected."
"No kidding." I laughed awkwardly.
"I can't believe I'm saying this right now but... I missed you and I still miss you." He looked at me.
"I miss you too..." I paused, "spider squealer."
"Stoppp." he whined turning over on his elbow to get a better look at me. "You call me that and i'll banish you from this palace."
"You wouldn't dare."
"Try me."
I shoved him playfully, "stop being such a prat." He laughed and got up helping me off the floor
"Good night darling, you look splendid in red." he complimented my kefta, turned but then stopped to look at me. He kissed my hand, "was that good? less prat-ish?"
He laughed on his way out.
"You're a git!" I shouted but he was gone.
"Whos a git?" A feminine voice said behind me. Alina found me and stood by me. Her dark hair fell beautifully on her shoulders. Her infectious smile shining. I couldn't help but compare my red hair to her gorgeous dark brown. What I wouldn't do to not have my hair clash with red.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"I just needed a moment alone. That's all."
"Why are you so close to Sturmhond- sorry I'm still getting used to his real name. I meant, Nikolai."
"As you know we were friends before all this. We really only had each other."
"Wow. That's actually adorable."
"Yeah, i guess," i laughed.
"No, no." Alina looked into the distance.
"What? What's wrong?" I held her hand. "Alina?"
"Do you see him?"
I looked to where she was pointing but no one was there. And that's when I instantly knew. She was seeing him too. The Darkling.
"Alina. Shake it off. It's not real. It will go away."
"It will. Yeah, it will." her eyes scrunched and she shook her head. "What do you see him too?"
"No." I lied.
"Then how do you know?"
"Just a guess." I muttered, "it's getting late Alina. You need some rest for the big days ahead."
"You're right. Goodnight Amelia."
"Goodnight."
