Smoke And Mirrors

I sit in my room, not even thinking, not doing anything, I don't even cry. I didn't go to school,  I started looking for places to live off campus since I was going to drop out soon.
I had enough money to get a townhouse by that cafe I went into and met Clara.

A week later I had dropped out, and was packing up my things when Tasha walks in my room, "Hey you got a letter, I don't know who it's from. It doesn't say." She holds it out.

I look at it, "Thanks." I look at the hand writing that spelt out my name in big letters.

Jake.

I open it and it was just a piece of paper that said: 'I'm sorry, I love you too.'

I tighten my jaw, folding it back up and stuffing it into the envelope.

"Who sent it?" Tasha asks from the doorway.

"No one." I throw it on my bed, "Forget about it. Do you mind helping me carry these boxes to my car?"

"Sure," Tasha smiles and picks up one.
Jane had moved into a different dorm—and we had a new girl that transferred into ours.

I had two three by three open box of clothes that I was going to donate. But I let Tasha pick out any she wanted before hauling them to the truck.

Tasha shuts my trunk before hugging me tightly—squeezing me until I couldn't breathe.
I smile and squeeze her back.
She pulls away, "Are you going to be okay?"

"Of course."

"It's just...you've been very to yourself since the break up."

"I'm okay Tasha, really." I walk over and start my car, "Please—come over whenever you want. You have your spare key?"

"Yeah," she holds it up, "I won't loose it."

"I'll call you later okay?"

"Alright, just leave and go make your house pretty."

"Alright, alright" I get in and pull out of my parking spot. As I drive off I look back and see her jumping up and down and waving. I stuck my hand out the window and wave as I honk my horn.

I here her yell, "I LOVE YOU!" At the top of her lungs.
I smile and drive off, boxes filling up every inch of my car.

Today I start a new.
Today I start life.
