Hunk's eyes widened at Lance's words.
The rover explosion which sent Lance into a coma. The very exposion that proved to them all how truly dangerous this whole paladin thing would be.
It was the very reason Hunk had been able to take on the Galra on the Balmera because he knew he had to save Lance.
He couldn't live without Lance.
But ever since he came out of the pod Hunk had almost forgotten about the explosion, Lance had been healed and things had gone back to normal.
But now Hunk was realising that yes, the physical wounds had healed, but the mental and emotional ones had not.
"A-and I um... I guess I'm not as over it as I... As I thought." Lance admitted shakily. "I'm sorry."
"Lance you don't have to apologize." Keith said quickly shaking his head. "It's okay."
Lance let out a shaky breath taking a seat on the floor. "I know." He admitted quietly. "I just wish it didn't still get to me."
Hunk sat himself next to his best friend wrapping his arm around him strongly. "I'm sorry, I should have realised that you were hurting."
Hunk was hating himself right now.
"It's okay Hunk." Lance promised. "I'm okay so long as I don't think about it, and I hadn't really thought about it in ages and then the dream and it just... I don't know, I felt so alone and...."
"You're not alone." Pidge promised kneeling in front of them placing her hand on Lance's knee.
"Never alone." Keith added joining them on the floor.
"And we're never going to let you face something like that alone again." Hunk assured giving Lance a squeeze.
Lance's smile evened out and the tension in his shoulders faded. "Thanks guys."
"Paladins, we're here." Allura informed over the coms.
"Come on, me and Hunk have some cool things to show you." Pidge grinned.
~~~
"This one is like the shields that we have but it's bigger and stronger." Hunk explained with a smile.
"I'll have it." Lance offered with a small smile. "It'll come in handy if we're moving civilians."
"Alright guys, great work." Shiro nodded happily. "Now here's the plan. Once we get down there were going to strike them hard and fast."
"Keith you will get Pidge to the control center where she can begin shutting down their communicators and where she can set off her distractions." Allura explained gesturing to the holographic map that popped up. "Lance and Hunk you will be ferrying the prisoners out of the cells to the landing pad where myself and Coran will get them to the castle."
"And I'll be in the black lion ready to pick you guys up the moment you need me, and while I wait I'll be taking out the main cannons around the base." Shiro smiled.
"This is gonna work." Lance smiled brightly.
"It is indeed a very well thought out plan." Coran praised.
"It had better." Shiro admitted with a sigh. "Otherwise we'll have a pretty hard job coming back."
"That's true." Pidge nodded. "But once I'm in I should be able to get the locations for all the Galran's fleets, that way we can be more prepared then ever."
"Alright team, let's go do this." Shiro smirked.
~~~
Hunk sighed heavily when they finally got back onboard the castle.
Although the Galran's defences were strong and in perfect condition, their bases had hardly any guards.
It had been easy going in once Shiro had hit their main shields.
Sure there was a few hundred fighters but with Coran and Shiro working through them it soon seemed like an easy battle.
Pidge had unlocked the prisoners doors and had sealed off the few Galran guards.
As it turned out they didn't need to get the civilians off world, what they did was hand over the fully functioning base to the inhabitants and let them have their world back.
In doing so they not only gained new allies but also got to fully test out Pidge and Hunk's newest inventions.
Lance had to admit the two had really gone all out and the gear was amazing.
"That was awesome." Pidge grinned. "I can't believe that we did that, I was so prepared for something to go horribly wrong."
"I was not prepared for that." Hunk admitted. "I'm just glad it's over."
"Yeah, we did good." Lance smirked giving Hunk a high five. "So what are we going to do to celebrate?"
"How about another movie night?" Allura asked curiously. "I rather enjoyed the last one."
"But Lance has yet to tell me how the last film ended." Coran frowned. "I need to know what happened to the young Anakin Skywalker."
Lance chuckled. "I'll explain it all Coran." He promised. "Maybe we should watch that one again, so these guys can catch up."
"That's so boring though!" Pidge complained.
Hunk chuckled. "Haven't you got another series we could start to watch?"
Pidge frowned tapping her finger on her chin thoughtfully. "Hang on."
She tapped onto her gauntlet letting the film's load up. "I've got... I've got Captain American or How to train your dragon."
"Httyd." Lance and Keith said at the same time a smile growing on both their faces.
"No way." Shiro chuckled.
"Oh my days." Lance and Keith both exclaimed. "You like httyd?"
"Of course!"
"Are you two going to speak in sync all the time?" Pidge asked raising an eyebrow.
"No." They both said sharply making Pidge grin.
"I think we found our next film." Hunk smiled. "Let's go set it up."
"Lance perhaps you could give me a short run through of what happens in the movie." Coran said as he stepped besides Lance.
Lance grinned brightly. "Sure thing, come on."
