If Only She'd Loved Him-Sequel

He waited by the side of the road with a patience born from meticulous practice. His face a hidden shadow in the brush, his fingers slipping back and forth on the trigger, not from sweat but from anticipation. When the car came speeding by, he watched it slow down as it avoided the rock he'd so carefully placed in the road. As expected, the car slid towards the right of the forest giving him a clear look at the two people inside. He took his shot. The bullet went lower than he'd hoped for and for a moment the man cursed. Then his curse turned to a smile. The car, hit on the left rear tire, swerved erratically, as its driver fought to figure out what had happened. But it was too late for rational thought as the car suddenly swinging hard to the left, ploughed head long into a tree.

For a minute he just stood there, waiting as the airbags exploded against the glass to see if someone climbed out of the vehicle, confused, dazed. The trigger tightened in his hand, but the car stayed still. No one moved inside or out. Getting to his feet, he approached the driver's side first. His movements were slow, almost leisurely, but the darkness in his eyes held no compassion, only cold decision. The door swung open without resistance. He stared down at the passenger. A breath to slow, the boy realized who stood above him. His hands flung up towards his face, but it was too late. The bullet was already moving through the chamber.

The girl sat up then, horror crossing her face as she saw who was before her, saw the gun wisping smoke in the air. She screamed, fell silent. Picking up her body, the man tossed her over his shoulder in a fireman's carry and threw her in the trunk. The boy was next.

Smoldering and empty, the car sat in the road, waiting for discovery.
