『 Chapter 16: The Kill Ring 』

"I SAID STOP THE FIGHT!" Stoick growled, slamming his hand down on the iron bar in front of him, successfully bending it out of place.

Spooked, the Nightmare snapped at Hiccup's outstretched hand. Hiccup yelped and jumped backward. The spell is broken. The Nightmare began reacting to Hiccup's sudden movements and blasted another stream of fire. Hiccup screamed and barely dove out of reach. Hiccup scrambled around the ring. The Nightmare pursued, snapping and springing from ground to wall.

Your heart began beating like a drum and you tried to pull up the entrance to the ring, "Hiccup!" You called. You turned to your left and grabbed an axe that was hung up on the wall next to you. After wedging in between the gate and the ground you pushed it up and crawled under. You called out to the boy, "Hiccup!" Trying to get his attention. You ran over to the destroyed wall of weapons and grabbed a hammer. You kicked it up with your foot and caught it mid-air before throwing it at the Monsterous Nightmare. The creature turned to you before darting after you, realizing your mistake you scrambled away, quickly trying to get away from the dragon.

The gate opened and you spotted Stoick standing in the doorway, "This way!" He called. You sprinted in that direction, successfully dodging a stream of fire. Stoick grabbed you and pulled you through the doorway. Hiccup was inches away but the dragon spat out a shot that blocked his path. He quickly redirected himself.

The dragon pounced on Hiccup, it reeled back, preparing to fire. You heard a sound of a whistle in the distance.

It was the distinct sound of a Night Fury.

"Night Fury! Get down!"

          Toothless bound over the crowd and blasted a hole through the chain enclosure. He flew through it and disappeared in the boiling smoke. The Vikings rushed to railings... in time to see a flurry of wings cutting through the dissipating smoke. Toothless and the Nightmare tumbled into the clear, locked in a toothy, vicious fight. Toothless kicked the Nightmare off and planted himself between Hiccup and it. The Nightmare snarled, circling them. Toothless lunged and roared... causing the Nightmare to relent and back away. To everyone's shock and horror, Hiccup got to his feet and grabbed Toothless protectively, "Alright Toothless, go. Get out of here!"

People began jumping into the ring, all prepared to fight the dragon, "Go, go!"

You turned and noticed Stoick walking into the ring, "Stoick no!" You called, trying to keep him back.

"No Dad!" Hiccup called, "He won't hurt you!"

Toothless growled, before running towards the Chief. You heard another roar and spotted Rainsong tackling Toothless out of the way. Your eyes widened and you panicked running into the ring. Rainsong stood in between Toothless and the Chief. Stoick looked shocked before letting out a shout and startling Rainsong who jumped out of the way from being hit by some of the villagers.

Toothless tackled Stoick and you rushed over to Rainsong, trying to keep her away from the others, "Run Rainsong! Go! Go to the normal place, I'll find you when this is all over!" The dragon sent you a sad look before running off, hopefully towards the cove.

"Toothless stop!" Hiccup called. Toothless reeled back to shoot, "No, NO!" He exclaimed, stopping the dragon from shooting at Stoick. Toothless turned to the boy, his pupils dilated before being hit with an ax. A few men grabbed the dragon and pinned him down.

Hiccup started running towards them but you grabbed him and held him back, "NO, no please! Don't hurt him!"

"There is nothing we can do yet." You said, watching sadly. As Stoick glared down at the dragon.

"Put it with the others."

Stoick tossed you and Hiccup into the great hall, "I should have known. I should have seen the signs." You stepped back, not wanting to get in between this father and son fight.
