As soon as Savannah arrived home, she was greeted by a worried mother. " Dear! Oh, thank the heavens! Where have you been? " The mother questioned after hugging her daughter. The Mother's eyes widen as she saw her daughter had a leaf in her hair and dirt on her dress.
Savannah looked down and said. " I went to draw in the woods..." It wasn't the truth but it wasn't a complete lie. Her mother shook her head. " You know what is going on?! Why would you go out alone?" Savannah looked down and said." I wasn't alone, my friend was there. " She left out the part that she went alone at first. The mother was confused.
" The teacher said only you went missing..." Savannah nodded. That was true. " I did, however, I was with my friend in the woods. That's the only place we went. " The mother looked at the notebook and asked. " Well, what did you draw? " Savannah frowned as she knew her drawing would bring up some unwanted questions.
Before she could protest, the mother took the notebook. She opened it and saw the drawing of Peter. Even though when she drew it she had no idea who it was. The mother gasped and said. " Is this your friend?" Her tone went a bit down at the word friend. She was suspicious of him, that Savannah knew.
Savannah also knew it would do no help to lie. " Yes, mother, he is my friend. " Her mother placed the notebook on the table and sighed. " You know how much you risk just going to school, correct? " Savannah nodded and frowned.
It was time to tell her mother. However before she could get a word out, her mother said this. " I know about what is going on at school. But that is no excuse to do what you did, young lady!" Savannah looked down with anger and guilt in her eyes. " He's my friend, my only friend. I already know about the weather, mother. Please, please, don't take this away. "
Her mother sighed and asked. " Are you going to meet him somewhere tomorrow?" It was Saturday tomorrow, so it was a readable question. " I promised that I would. Besides, I need to get my bag. " The school was never locked so kids can do weekend studies or grab something they forgot.
The mother sighed and said." Okay, I will allow you to go as long as you are back before the sunsets. " Savannah smiled and she hugged her mother. " Thank you! " Savannah then ran upstairs to her room leaving her mother there alone. This mother sighed as she ran her hand through her graying hair.
This was the happiest she has seen her daughter in months. Ever since her two friends moved away she hasn't been this happy. The mother looked at the drawing and sighed. The boy looked string, at least strong enough to protect her daughter for a few hours. At least, the Piped Piper decides to have mercy on them today.
Savannah woke up early the next day. She couldn't wait to meet up with Peter. She then stopped as she realized they didn't set a time. She frowned and began to look through her clothes. She didn't want to wear a dress or a skirt since they were going in the forest.
She grabbed some plain black pants and a white shirt with a brown loose corset. Not extremely proper for a lady but enough to not seem as if she wasn't even a little bit proper. She put her hair in a ponytail and put her shoes on. She walked downstairs to see her mother reading the paper.
" The girl returned, unharmed and with no memory. No other victims. You and your friend better be careful, Savannah. You two could be next. " Savannah nodded as she grabbed a muffin. She ate it quickly and grabbed her notebook. She noticed there was a pen hooked to the cover. " You dropped it when walking up the stairs. " The mother answered before Savannah was able to question it.
" I am walking you to the school. Get your bag and you can meet up with Peter. " She said the last part without confidence. She didn't know if she got his name correct. Savannah smiled and nodded. " Yes, I will. Can we leave now?" It was already half-past nine. The mother stood up and they began to walk to the school.
