Doc felt bad for this girl. She really did.
After the group found her in the woods, they immediately brought her to the Wheeler house and snuck her into the basement. The entire time, her mouth was sealed shut and she spoke not a word of how she felt, any confusion, any hesitancy. Doc had taken Mike's jacket off of him and draped it over the girl's shoulders before she and her brother sat her on the couch. Now, the four stood in front of her, the boys pelting her with questions.
"Is there a number we can call for your parents?"
"Where's your hair? Do you have cancer?"
"Did you run away?"
"Are you in some kind of trouble?"
"Is that blood?"
Lucas reached forward to touch the girl, but Mike swiped his hand away.
"Stop it! You're freaking her out!"
"She's freaking me out!"
"I bet she's deaf." Dustin turned to the girl before clapping his hands loudly, the girl instantly flinching back.
Doc shoved Dustin with a cold stare. "Cut that out! What is wrong with you? She's obviously scared and probably frozen to death. Mike-"
"Yeah, I'm on it." He spun around and hurried to their basket of freshly washed clothing. Just then, thunder rumbled a bit harder than before, the poor girl on the couch tensing up and shutting her eyes tightly. Dustin and Doc stared at her in concern and Lucas had a look of perplexity on his face.
"The thunder won't hurt you." Doc softly whispered, the girl on the couch slowly opening her eyes and staring up at her. Doc's eye twitched at the sharp pain that spread across her head. "It's way out there. You're way in here. You're safe."
A faint and hesitant smile made its way onto the girl's face. Soon enough, Mike returned with the clothes he had worn the day before, holding them out to the girl. "Here, these are clean. Okay?"
The girl gently took the clothes from him and stared down at them for a moment before rubbing them against her cheek. The four carefully watched as she set down the clothes beside her and stood. Doc's eyes widened when the girl reached down to the hem of her shirt. "No, no, no!" The Wheeler siblings shouted and both reached out to keep her hands in place as Dustin and Lucas quickly walked away, exclaiming their shock and horror. The girl stared between the Wheelers in confusion before Mike pointed towards their bathroom. "See over there? T-That's the bathroom. Privacy. Get it?"
When the girl only stared at them in embarrassment, Doc moved around the table and picked up the clothes from the couch. "Come on, hun. I'll go with you." She offered a warm smile. The girl looked at the boys, who were still recovering from their shock, and slowly followed Doc to the bathroom. Once they were at the door, Doc pushed it open and handed the clothes to the girl after she had stepped inside. "Got everything? Just, uh... put those on and come back out. You'll warm up in no time." She nodded before holding the doorknob and pulling the door closed, but the girl grabbed it before it could be shut. Doc blinked at her. "You don't want me to close it?"
"No." The girl whispered. Raising her brows, Doc slowly nodded.
"Okay. I have that problem, too. I hate being in closed-off places. You're like me," She lightly chuckled before slowly pulling the door until there was only a crack. "Here's what I do. I close the door until it gets to here. Is this okay?"
