"Sam. Move your seat up." Bailey shoves the back of his seat.
"Hey! I'm trying to pick music here!" He yells back. I chuckle to myself and continue looking out the window.
"What's so funny?" She asks me. I turn and look at her.
"Hm?" I pretend not to hear her.
"I said, what's so funny? Bean boy." She scoffs. I raise my eyebrows.
"Bean boy?" I mimic her.
"Yeah. Bean boy." She crosses her arm.
"I don't know who got your panties in a twist, but don't take it out on me." I just roll my eyes and look back out the window.
"Hey!" She yells. I act like I can't hear her. "Jake. Jake. Jakey." I clench my hands, and I turn my head.
"You can call me bean boy, fuck tard, lemon head, i don't care. But you don't get to call me that." I point to her. She smirks and leans back in her seat.
"Alright." She says. I turn back to the window. "Jakey." She giggles and I lean over and start tickling her. "Stawppp!" She squeals and starts kicking me. "Okay okay! I won't call you that!" I stop, feeling accomplished.
"Good." I brush the hair out of my face and lean back in my seat.
"Hey, Jakey." Sam chuckles from the front.
"What." I deadpan.
"Do we want Joplin or-?" Before Sam can finish asking Bailey jumps up.
"JANIS JOPLIN!" Bailey yells. We all laugh and Sam puts the CD in. The music starts and Bailey starts to sing along. I peek my eyes over to her to watch. She closes her eyes and starts dancing in her seat. "Come on! Come on! Come on! And take it!" She sings. "Take a little piece of my heart now baby!" She smiles and grooves in her seat.
Sam starts to join in, and Josh sings while tapping on the steering wheel. "Take another little piece of my heart now baby!" She doesn't notice me while she sings. "You know you got it, if it makes you feel good!" She finishes the song, and smiles out the window.
"Damn Bales. If you want you can have my spot." Josh laughs.
"I rather watch the band." She giggles. "You guys make music look good." She leans back in her seat and sighs.
"Well, we're here." Sam says. We park the car, and climb out. I grab the cooler, forgetting how heavy it is.
"Here." Bailey grabs the other end and smiles. I smile back at her, and she gets red. It's not that hot is it? We carry everything to a spot on the beach, and set everything up. Towels, cooler, chairs.
"Let's go!" Sam yells throwing his shirt off.
"Hell yeah!" Josh follows, his shirt flying through the air. They spring off to the water. I shuck my shirt off and lay it next to my stuff. I look back out to the water and see Josh jump onto Sams back.
"Oh god." I sigh.
"What?" Bailey asks.
"They are going to drown each other." We both laugh. I turn to her and she's putting sunscreen on her cheeks. She looks at me and shrugs.
"Ginger." She grins and I laugh. I sort through our bags and find some sunscreen and start to apply it all over. I finish lathering myself, and I turn to bailey and she's sitting on the ground.
"You not getting in?" I ask, she just shakes her head. "Why not?"
"I can't swim." She looks up at me.
"What!" I yell.
"I never learned!" She laughs. "We never went to the beach when I was a kid."
"Then why did you agree to go." I kick sand around.
"Oh ya know. To look at all the shirtless old men." She giggles, and i roll my eyes. I look back to her and shake my head. "What?" She furrows her brow. Little did she know she was about to get thrown in.
"Oh my god! Snake!" I yell and point right next to her. She screams and jumps up.
"Where!" She looks around and I throw her over my shoulder and run to the water. "Jake!" She screams. I let her down in knee deep water. Once the water touches her she tries to climb back on me.
"Bailey!" I laugh. "It's fine!" I set her back down and she looks terrified. She looks at the water around us, and looks to me. "Your fine. You don't have to go anywhere deep." She nods, but still looks scared. "Come on." I grab her hand and walk us further out. She's slow, but eventually we get chest deep. She doesn't let go of my hand. "See? Not so bad." I smile at her. She freezes.
"Jake." She mumbles. Then she jumps at me and clings herself on me. I grab her and I see Josh under the water. I bust out laughing. "What is it?" She asks. I have my arm wrapper around her waist, her legs around my waist and arms around my shoulders.
"I think it's a piranha." I laugh. Josh breaks the surface and spits water at us.
"Hey guys!" He stands up and throws his arms up.
"Jesus Josh!" She yells. "Your lucky we're in the ocean! Otherwise I would come over there!"
"It's not the ocean." He chuckles.
"Close enough." She sighs. Josh face drops, and then he grows 6 feet taller. Josh sits on top of Sam's shoulders, and Sam stands up.
"Hey!" He laughs. I shake my head.
"You guys need a trench coat." I chuckle. Sam smirks and leans back in the water. Josh's back slaps the surface of the water and they both sink in. Josh shoots up and gasps.
"Sam!" He grunts. Sam starts swimming away, and Josh swims after him.
"Well." I say.
"Children." Bailey sighs. We look at each other and it becomes very aware that she's still holding on me. "Uhm." She let's go and stands on her own, but not far away. "Can you walk me back?" She asks. I nod and we start walking. The waves come in and they start tossing her around. I walk closer in case she falls.
We make it to our spot, Sam and Josh are already there.
"I said I was sorry!" Sam yells. Josh won't look at him. Sam looks at me and Bailey.
"I'm not helping." I throw my hands up. He looks at Bailey. She sighs and stands next to Josh.
"Josh?" She bats her eyes at him. He doesn't budge. "Joshy?" She try's again. He only shifts in his seat. "Josh, I need a handsome man's help." She leans on his shoulder. He finally looks at her.
"What?" He asks.
"Sunscreen?" She hands him a bottle, and they step away. I sit down on the towel, and pull drinks out of the cooler. I hear Bailey laugh, and I look at her. Josh rubs sunscreen on her shoulders and she giggles. I wish that was me. What? No! Jake!
I shake that thought away. She's just some girl. Right?
