TW: Blood, Emotional Abuse CHAPTER 06 :: SIBLINGS Ten Years Ago
Bruno walks in the hallways of Casita late at night. He just got back from the theater after finishing their dress rehearsals. He may be tired but he was proud of his work. Anyone can feel how much effort and love he puts into it through. His shoulders bowed and his yawns continued to echo in Casita as he heads to his room. He passes by the glimmering doors and lingers at the nursery room where Camilo and Mirabel had stayed. It was only days after Camilo's ceremony and the drama had not died down yet. Bruno felt bad and could only imagine how hard it must be for his nephew.
"Bruno, good thing you're home."
The old man jumps only to see Abuela, smiling, who has just come out of her room. He sighed in relief and apologized to his mother. Alma shook her head and goes closer to Bruno.
"Brunito, since you're not busy. I need you to do something for the family," his mother requests as she looks at him with loving yet worried eyes.
"I'm a bit tired Mama, but whatever it is, I'll see what I can do," Bruno smiled weakly at his mother, waiting for her request. Her smile turned into worry as she whispered to Bruno,
"I'm worried about the magic, mijo. After Camilo's gift ceremony, I couldn't stop worrying about the miracle and our family."
Bruno listened carefully to his mother's request, but his eyes widen realizing that his mother is asking for a vision.
"Ah well, Mama— I just got home from work, and then–"
"I know, Brunito. But you've been so busy these days," she pleads with that look that Bruno knew too well. Bruno starts to walk away slowly, "I know Mama– I just don't think I have the energy today–"
"And tomorrow? You'll be busy with the town's play! And our family needs this vision now."
"I-I just can't do it, Mama–" he stutters as he tries to look away.
"Why can't you just do your part as the rest of the family...?" Bruno looks back at Abuela, with a pained expression. "I just don't have the energy—"
"Are you beginning to act like your sister?"
"No, Mama–"
"It does seem like it."
Silence and tension are built as Abuela desperately pleads for a vision from Bruno, worried about Casita and the miracle. Bruno on the other hand is hurt to be compared with his rogue sister and turns away from Abuela.
"I'll be in my room, I'll see what I can do, Mama," he said with no choice. Abuela walks up to him and kisses his cheek, "That's my Brunito." She then heads back to her room, making Bruno sigh in defeat. He heads to his room to do what he needs to do.
He reaches his room and looks at the infinite amount of stairs. "Casita, bring me up," he commands. The sand on Bruno's floor turns into a makeshift elevator and lifts him up. As soon he reaches the top floor, he thanks Casita as he opens a secret door to his room and puts down all his things. He had no energy at this point and kept yawning as he prepared the ritual. He wore his ritual garment which was a long coat that reached the floor. It helps his character.
