Thirteen:
The guests were staring at him. Eric made a speech about how relieved Aleksander had been found, alive and well, with a glass of champagne in his hand. He was supposed to stand up there and smile politely in front of a bunch of people that he didn't even know. Alina's parents were there, and they stood up with them. One united front.
There was no mention of Aleksander coming back to the company. He wondered at that, but he knew if he tried to talk about it with his father there, he would ignore him. He would ask him about it later this weekend.
"Now, Aleksander," said Eric, looking at him, "would you like to say some words to these fine people?"
Aleksander grimaced. He didn't want to say anything to anyone. What he wanted was to take Alina, and see how many rooms of his parent's vacation home he could fuck her in. When they'd gotten to the vacation house, she'd changed into a short little golden dress that showed off of her legs.
He couldn't believe he had gone so many years without being with her. He should have taken her as soon as they were teenagers. He'd been an idiot to wait so long.
"Aleksander," his father repeated, "do you have anything that you want to say?"
He sighed, then smiled at the people in front of him. "I am terribly sorry I gave my family such a scare by running off. I was scared of the responsibility facing. I'm not scared now, because I've got my family and my lovely wife with me to face the future with. And I am looking forward to making the future of The Fold with my lovely Alina."
Alina made a noise, and there was whispering from the audience.
"Wife?" he heard someone say.
"I thought the Nazyalensky girl was his wife." "When did that happen?" "Doesn't he mean SECOND wife?"
Aleksander wanted to strangle all of them. "I was a fool for running off with Miss Nazalensky before. But I thought Zoya was pregnant, and I wanted to make things right. We were able to clarify that she was not pregnant, and we all pray for her safe return in the meanwhile. There was never any connection between me and her aside from that. Alina and I were married by The Apparat last year, in a secret wedding ceremony. She's my only wife. The only woman I've ever loved, and ever will."
Alina stepped forward. "You....Zoya wasn't pregnant?"
He nodded at her.
"But what about...."
"We weren't married," Aleksander said, "Zoya never filed the paperwork."
To his surprise, Alina stepped forward, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him deeply. "No one told me."
"No one told you...?"
"Your parents wanted me to stay with you because they were worried about your memory. I thought...oh Aleks. I'm sorry."
He furrowed his brows at her. "Is that why you were distant with me? Because you thought that I was still married to Zoya?"
Alina nodded.
He cupped her face in his hands. "I would never marry anyone else. Only you. You're the only one that I've ever wanted. Wife."
"Husband," Alina said with a smile.
Aleksander kissed her. She kissed him enthusiastically back, a low moaning sound coming from her. He could feel his cock pressing up against her center. "Alina....there's guests."
Alina pulled away from him, blushing. "Right. Right...."
"Liars!" the voice came from the crowd of people. Everyone turned to look, and standing there in the center was Suhm Nazyalensky, Zoya's father.
Eric glowered at the man. "Suhm, how did you get in here?"
"I have my ways," the older gentleman said, "I know that your son did something to my daughter. He didn't like that she was getting in the way of his future with that little bitch!"
He sneered at Alina, pointing at her. "He was constantly using my daughter because he couldn't get what he wanted from her. When things didn't turn out the way he wanted, he took things into his own hands. Aleksander Morozova is a murderer!"
There was a gasp from the crowd.
"Security!" Eric shouted. "Security, get this man out. He's a madman. He has no idea what he's talking about."
His father's security pushed through the crowd. They grabbed hold of Suhm.
"Let go of me!" Zoya's father demanded. "I'm leaving----but this isn't done. Your son is a monster. He hurt your daughter before, Starkov, and he hurt mine, and it won't be long before he does the same to yours again when he decides that he's tired of her."
"You've got no idea what's between my daughter and him!" Leo Starkov shouted. "My son-in-law is responsible for nothing. Your daughter was part of a terrible accident."
"Caused by that monster!" Suhm shouted. "I will get justice for my daughter. You will see! Mark my words. There will be justice for Zoya."
"Come on now," said one of the security guards, "go quietly----"
"I'm going!" Suhm snapped. The crowd parted for him, and Suhm left.
Aleksander watched him go, his stomach in knots.
Alina stepped forward and took his hand. "Don't worry----he won't do anything. He's just angry, and grieving. It will be fine."
"Sure," he said, "I'm sure it will."
