Step Into The Bad Side

I wake up to beeping and the smell of a sterile room. Everything hurts and feels heavy. It feels so heavy to open my eyes but I finally do. My family and friends are in front of me wiping tears. They don't make any sudden movements. Daniel scratches his head, "When is trouble gonna stop coming our way?"

I feel tears prick at my eyes. This is my fault.. they're all in this because of me.. I put them all in this. My can hear my mom hollering in the hallway, "Where is the doctor, no doctor has checked her out since we've been here." My mom comes in and relief hits her since my eyes are finally open.

She comes to kiss my forehead. We're all casually chatting and Daniel comes up to hold my hand. The doctor comes in and she smiles at me. "Hi Maxxine. It took us a while to run over your test. But you should be happy to know that you both are okay. But we do need to switch your meds to make it safe."

Oh that's great that we both are safe.. wait.. "Wait what do you mean both?"

She looks at me with a confused face, "You know.. your friend Elizabeth, she came out to rescue you but was stabbed. She's in the bed beside you napping.. which explains why we are whispering. She's been up worrying about you my dear." At first I thought she meant I was pregnant but now that she points it out.. Liz would've been in my bed beside me.

I slip out of bed and walk over to Liz. I slip in beside her and cuddle, "When can we leave?" She smiles, "Tonight if you guys are feeling up to it." I nod my head yes and drift off.

Liz and I are putting on our boyfriend's sweats and I feel so comfortable but my stomach begins to flop and I can feel my lunch rushing to surface. I run to the restroom and throw up everything, if possible my soul.

Liz helps me because I tell the boys to stay out. She helps me clean myself up and then slips something in my bag. I look at her and she gives me her 'Elizabeth is serious' look. She mouths later as we walk out and head home.

A couple days pass and it's Graduation day. Me being valedictorian has me everywhere. My graduation uniform is a tad bit tight which is kinda weird I guess. I hear my name be called by our principal and I walk from my seat to the podium.

"Hey everyone, good evening. I hope you're all well despite sweating in this hot gym. We all gather here tonight to not only recognize but celebrate the fact that we made it through something some of us thought we would fail at. Yes, some of us fell behind off of the tight rope we call high school but a lot of us continued to strive for balance. This is a door to open to our new life that needs to be discovered. A lot of us know what we're doing with our lives when we walk out today.. a lot of us don't. However the ones that don't are great! It's okay to not have your mind made up right now.. you are still eighteen. I hope you all live joyful lives after tonight and I wish nothing bit love to you all. A lot of you guys might be wondering who I am.. I'm the girl that sits in the back afraid of everyone and everything and tries to achieve high to get out of the problems she's in. I'm living proof that, it doesn't matter where you come from or what you been through.. you can be great if you work at it.. use your problems ad a push to strive for greatness.. not a crutch for pity. Good night to you all, and congratulations." I get a ocean of applause as I find my seat and I look to see my mom tearing up.

After graduation Daniel and I go home and I find my way to the kitchen while he wanders off somewhere else.

If feels like 30 minutes since he left me so I set off to look for him. He's in his room sitting on the bed, holding the box that Lizzy slipped into my back. My face drops because he notices that it's been opened. He gives me a dirty glare and I can see him shaking slightly.

"Maxxine, is this a joke. Where is it?" Wait let me explain. He chuckles sarcastically, "Explain?!? And 2 come in the box.. where's the other? Where Maxx? Answer me!" I jump slightly at his violent tone and wipe my eyes of the tears. He pushes pass me and throws the box at me. I blink rapidly and start to hyperventilate.

He grabs the box and me and sits me outside with the box and my phone in my lap. "When you get your shit together, call me.. other than that.. don't come back until all this drama is done.. cause I can't with the drama anymore." The door slams shut and the thick cold breeze is stuck in my throat.

I call Lizzy to pick me up and she's here within seconds. She helps me to the car and I throw the box at her, "Oh Maxx.. we'll get through this.. but did you tell him about the second test?" I hear how her tone is worried and I swear a nerve pops, "No I didn't fucking tell my almost fiancé about how you could be possibly carrying his best friends child." She rolls her eyes, "Not like I'm the only one pregnant."

I smirk, scoff in disbelief of what Daniel just did to me and watch his door, "Takes two to tango amiga."
