"Come on, hurry!" I heard Eren encourage us from way ahead of us. I looked to my right and repeated the comment to Armin with a smile. He nodded gratefully and took another sprint. The group continued running. The officers weren't even visible anymore because of the distance. Armin and I were running in silence, focussing on the sound of our footsteps and our heavy breathing. Out of nowhere, Armin briefly touched my hand, causing me to look at him.

"Thank you." He softly said in between his panting. Armin had always thought I ran slower than I was able to, just to accompany him. I had never confirmed nor denied that, though. I just smiled at him and winked at the precious being he was.

When we reached the camp, the rest of the group was already resting. Some were even eating. Merry chattering was heard and amidst the innocent conversations, some laughs and sighs were heard when Armin and I reached the mob.

I shot them an angry glare and placed my hand on Armin's shoulder whispering to him that he had done well. The sea-blue eyes shone like gems and even though I received quite some protest, I patted him on his head.

"Glad you decided to join us after all."

A sharp sound silenced the crowd immediately. I let out a sign and changed my posture to stand strong. "We've reached the camp, Captain, and still within the maximal time range," I responded and turned to face Captain Levi, who raised an eyebrow at us.

"Within the maximal time range? Not even close."

He crossed his arms in front of his chest. "You're mistaken, we-" But Levi interrupted me. "You're slow."

Armin's eyes sparkled in earnest. "We'll improve!" But Levi just shook his head. "Still too slow. You just don't have it in you. Whenever you lose your horse outside of the wall and need to run back to camp... don't bother."

He turned around and was about to walk away, when instinctively my arm reached and grabbed his shoulder, holding him back. He let out a sound of astonishment as he was rather violently turned back to face us.

"You don't even allow him to improve himself! He'll be faster next time. Besides, Armin is much cleverer than you, if ever he'll get lost outside the walls, he'll figure something out!"

I noticed I had stepped forward, standing protectively in front of Armin... and dangerously close to Levi. Levi who, contrarily to expectation, slightly smiled at me. It could not have been concluded out of the form on his lips, but his eyes showed a smug and amused glance.

Realising how close we stood to each other, he did not back away but only lessened the space between us. And regardless of his small posture, he looked terrifyingly intimidating as his husky voice rang so close to my ears, that I could feel his breath tickle my skin.

"I'm sure Armin would figure something out, but would you?"

"Of course I would." I sneered at him.

"I don't think so." He responded, still standing close to me.

"What you think is irrelevant." I scowled.

"Is that so? Thoughts like that could get you killed."

I backed away, slightly pushing Armin backwards as well. Then I filled my lungs with air and furiously responded.

"By who? Titans? Or you? You've been doubting my skills since the moment I joined the scouting legion. Sure, I wasn't great when I got here, but I've improved so much and you can't even see that! No, you don't want to see it. I try so hard to impress you, but there is absolutely nothing I can do to satisfy you. Nothing! Any idea what effort I've been through? I might not be the best, but I do not deserve your stupid comments! So stop teasing me and acknowledge my progress!!"
