Rubbing her eyes, Preeta slowly raised herself from the chair properly. She had been sleeping whole night on this couch in the corridor. Karan had insisted on leaving her home to take rest and not spoil her sleep. But how could a daughter be restful when her father's life was at stake?
Moreover, Karan was much of concerned than her. He had been restless all night, not sleeping and walking around the corridors to keep himself updated from the doctors. Her mother was slept to the nearby chair while her brother was travelling from all his way to Chandigarh from Delhi.
Preeta looked around and noticed the time from the wall clock. It was six in the morning and she was still unaware of her father's report. Karan had only told her about the cause of this sudden medication. She wasn't told about what was happening now and what would happen later or how would things change for her father.
Her gaze fell on her dream of a husband who was moving from right to left in front of her Father's allotted room. He had his one hand on hip and other rubbing the growing stubble that was making him look carelessly handsome. He had dark circles and ruffled hair which made Preeta realised that he hadn't sleep all night.
Her heart clenched at the thought. Was it genuine or was it all an act to gain her affection and trust? Preeta gulped and sucked a huge breath. It was immoral to even think like that at this time. She knew that her father was the most loving person and there was no way Karan wouldn't feel bad for his poor health. After all, he was his wife's father.
She called out for him softly. "Karan." In a jerk, her husband looked at her with a concerned look on his face. Wasting no seconds, he marched upto her and sat beside on the couch. Putting her strands behind her ear lovingly, he observed her face.
"You're awake." Preeta's eyes lowered at the affection and forced herself to look back at him. Her heart clenched when she saw red rays in his eyes. There were eye bags and tiredness on his face. Her lips parted in the sudden feeling.
"You didn't sleep," she murmured while gazing at him intently. Karan was nowhere in the thought of answering to her off-topic words. He shook his head and brought his hand closer to cup her cheek.
"I did. You call your brother and ask if they are close. I'll just bring you a cup of coffee," saying this gently, he got up and was about to walk when Preeta grabbed his hand. She stood up and brought their hands in front of her. Swallowing the lump, she looked at him while trying to control her emotions.
"Thank you."
Karan face turned blank as he looked at her in surprise. He blinked while trying to process in his mind that Preeta was getting affected by the scenario. He wanted her to feel supported nor bribed like she always did. He made up his mind not to react much on it.
Nodding politely, he removed his hand from her grasp and turned to walk away from her.
Preeta was stunned with his response. Just a nod? That was his reaction. She had hoped for a kind smile or something else. But he didn't react at all. Her heart dropped at remembering the reason behind his silent behavior.
The client.
Her mind processed the thoughts fastly. She was burdened with the tension of her father's health but she was still able to notice how Karan had helped her family with all of this. He was a rich man. Providing money was easy for him. But staying awake, giving her shoulder to cry and taking care of all the formalities for operations as a family member, was not so easy.
It seriously looked that he did all of this heartily.
But a poor response from him could only action one thing that her response didn't matter. It didn't make difference if she was touched by his support. It didn't matter if she felt safe with him being close. He was here all night and had made her feel that everything would be alright. But wasn't that done so he could win her heart again by showing some kindness.
