My birthday was in a week and I was quite excited. It was the first birthday I was looking forward to and slightly unprepared for. My parents were here to celebrate with me and I had a boyfriend. They decided they were going to stay a little longer, needing a small break and were to work from home for a while.

I usually would have a get together with the girls and it'd maybe take place at Veronica's house because her parents had a wine cellar. We'd get drunk, do karaoke and sleepover. It was never dull. Now I was wondering if I should switch it up a bit since I wanted to celebrate with a new group of people. Particularly my parents, mainly because they missed the others.

We were in English and the teacher had told us to discuss the context of one of Shakespeare's works. My group of friends obviously had no intentions of doing so, seeing as though we were discussing what we should do for my birthday this year.

"We should get together at my house. My dad got a new pool installed and no one's tried it yet," Veronica proudly exclaimed.

"That's boring. How about I get us tickets to the grand opening of the adventure park near the coffee shop," Amina suggested causing Veronica to look at her with mock hurt and then she dramatically clutched her heart. I met eyes with Ophelia and started laughing.

"Honestly, I don't even know if I can go. I'd have to ask my parents," Then I heard the sounds of 'oh's fill the room. A secluded amount of people knew my parents were never here and were surprised to hear that they finally appeared. Still, I made sure to keep the image of a 'picture perfect family' together. What can I say, I'm an actress at heart. Besides my parents wouldn't have even noticed my disappearance, but I wanted to pretend they would.

"Yeah, I'll ask. Fingers crossed they say yes," I smiled, trying to lighten up the awkward silence we fell into.

"Girls!" All of us almost jumped, scared of the loud voice. We all slowly turned to look at Mr Reenbour, afraid of what his next words were. He definitely wasn't a fan favourite around the school.

"I thought I said to discuss the context behind plays and poems not the latest gossip," A look of disgust covered his face as he said the last few words.

"Unless you want detention that is," We all shook our heads. As much as I was favourited by the teachers here, no one could get past the cold Mr Reenbour, although his stern face could make anyone laugh. He always looked rather constipated and the wrinkles on his face didn't help.

The sound of the bell rang in my ears, finally letting me know I could go back to the safety of outside, anywhere but this classroom. Grabbing my bag, I rushed out of the class. Not before giving each one of my friends a hug, making sure to hug Ophelia slightly longer.

"Wonder where she's off to in such a rush," I heard behind me as I slipped down the corridors, into the car park where students had started to gather. Mattia had driven me to school today and was supposed to take me back. I looked around and spotted his BMW i8 in the distance. Making my way over there, I realised I couldn't see him. He texted me beforehand telling me he was waiting for me yet I couldn't find him.

A gasp left my lips as I felt hands snake their way to my waist. Just as I was about to give this sick person an uppercut, I heard Mattia's hoarse voice.

"Hey, baby," I pushed him off me and gave him an annoyed look, wanting nothing more than to smack the grin off his face.

"Sorry, but you know how much fun it is to tease you," He walked up to me, resting his hands on my hips and kissed my forehead. I looked up at him with a raised eyebrow. We'd bonded even more after I'd started painting him every lunch. The painting was almost finished but I didn't want to stop spending my lunches with him. It was actually enjoyable.
