"It's still there. Dead. Like this town," Sty grumbled, talking about some dead rabbit across the street, crossing their arms as their dad drove them to school. "I doubt they're gonna clean it anyway, nobody here has enough sense to care anymore."

"Hey, quit bringing the mood down, kiddo. I'm sure they'll remove it sometime. And this town isn't as dead as you think, we've still got a hospital your mother works at-"

"That barely gives money," Sty butted in.

"Oh shush, we've got that, we still have a functioning pizzeria, the place I work at and school," their dad, Steven, finished, pulling into the school parking lot and stopping by the front school doors.

Sty opened the door and said, "Well, it's almost over anyway, this is like, the last day or something," before saying a goodbye to their dad and walking into the school. Then their bully approached them; the last thing they wanted to see before school ended.

"Hey, Stylynn," he said with a mocking tone, enunciating their deadname.

"It's Sty, not Stylynn. And if you call me that one more time, I won't hesitate to break your arms and dropkick you to Saturn," they said, growling and looking forward. They just ignored him for the rest of the day if he tried anything. They made it to class just a few seconds later and since it was the last day, there was a movie playing. A pretty boring one at that, too childish. So they just took out a sketchbook they didn't use all that often from their backpack and started doodling mindlessly. They drew a few animals, a bear, a chicken, a bunny and a fox. They looked to be mechanical though and actually they drew these mechanical characters pretty often whenever they doodled in their sketchbook. Sty didn't really have names for them, but didn't try to think of any anyway. Sometimes they also drew these characters withered and broken down too.

While lost in their thoughts of drawing, Sty heard the bell ring and quickly put their sketchbook back in their backpack, then slung it over their shoulders before heading out of the classroom, walking down the hall again like they did in the morning. "Finally," they muttered under their breath. Sty sped up, speedwalking, hurrying to the door.

They quickly burst through the door and ran back home, knowing their dad was still at his job. They had a house key and opened the door, greeting their cat, Rose, before hurrying up the stairs, skipping some stairs and closing their door before hopping onto their bed and whipping out their sketchbook, drawing more of those characters, the robotic characters. About an hour later, they heard the door open.
"Sty, I'm home!" Steven called, sitting down and turning on the TV immediately.
"Hi, dad!" Sty called back down, not looking up from their sketchbook. They continued drawing before unable to think of anything else and closing it, putting it up and going downstairs. "Hey." They smiled a little at their father before going to the kitchen and finding something to eat and sitting down next to him, watching the tv as well and changing the channel, simply because they found they current channel boring, chuckling as their dad said, "I was watching that," in a joking way. He chuckled but didn't care to change it back since Sty changed it to both of their favorite movie. He watched it for a moment before saying to Sty, "You're old enough to stay at home by yourself, y'know that, right?"
"Yeah, I suppose so. Why?" Sty turned to their dad a little, asking.
"Well, since it was the last day of school, I was thinking that maybe, before I go to work, I could drop you off at the library and give you a little bit of money for a slice of pizza and a soda at Jeff's Pizza. Then I could pick you up there once I was done at my job," Steven said, looking at Sty. "Yay or Nay?"
"Yay. That sound good to me, pizza and soda sounds good after a book or two." Sty smiled and turned back to the tv, continuing to watch it as if the conversation was never had.
