According to Dr.Ramani (check out her YouTube channel) there are four basic types of narcissists:
1.) Grandiose (garden variety)
2.) Covert (shy, quiet)
3.) Malignant
4.) Communal
There are however, many, many, many more types. Such other types are seductive, vulnerable, overt, classical, etc.
However, for this book I will just explain these 4, so it makes better sense and is easier to follow. Feel free to research the other types yourself.
1.) Grandiose narcissist
I find this one is the most common and easiest to spot.
A grandiose narcissist is what you would think of when you hear the word "narcissist". It is the man staring at his reflection in a shallow pool of water, or a man admiring himself in the mirror.
This type is usually harmless and will do the least damage. Example, they will talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk.
Most of the time they don't even realize what they do. And what they do is not intended. It is not done on purpose.
2.) Covert narcissist
I find this one the most difficult to spot. As well as the most sneaky. This type tends to be just as MEAN as a malignant narcissist but more sneaky. This type knows how to play the game and play it well.
They tend to come off as shy, weak, and fragile to others at first. Like a sociopath or psychopath, you may not notice anything wrong with them at first. They will seem completely normal. They may, however, appear sad, lonely, or depressed.
And they won't give off as huge of a sign like the other three types.
3.) Malignant narcissist
This one is the most similar to a psychopath. I find they tend to be the most MEAN of the other 3. At least outwardly/publicly. They come off as haughty, proud, superior, and seem to live by the motto "I am the best!" or "There is no one greater than me!"
They walk like they own the place, except when they feel small or inferior.
4.) Communal narcissist
This one likes to "save the planet". You will mostly find them a charity events or a big Galla/ball. They love to post to their Instagram about how they went to Africa and helped save a school and then post a pic of them surrounded by a bunch of smiling African school kids.
Or how they went into the rainforest and helped feed a starving panda.
This type just loves to help! But they want you to know it!
It's like they need, need, need to show it.
