Peter has never felt more guilty about anything in his life.

Not even when he was caught cheating on a quiz in his favorite teacher's class.

Not even when he'd completely spoiled Aunt May's surprise birthday party that he planned himself.

This time was completely different. Even now as he thinks back on the moment, he cringes and feels sick to his stomach.

Here's what happened...

It started with a hefty discussion at breakfast with the Avengers at the compound that everyone had decided to take the entire day to train.

Not only was the team preparing for a giant mission, but someone had made the comment that everyone was looking and behaving a little soft.

Everyone knew it and no one denied it. Leave it to America's Ass to say what no one else would.

Regardless of everyone's plans that day, they were all forced to postpone them to spend the day at the compound training.

"Pushing themselves to the limits," is what Steve had told the group.

That in order for their next mission to go as close to plan as possible, the team needed to be in their best shape.

Which very unfortunately meant that Peter had to completely blow off his and his girlfriend's one year anniversary of being together.

Without any kind of warning at all. Because the team's phones were confiscated the second they entered the compound's training facilities.

No distractions. Despite how many times Peter begged his superiors to let him at least text a warning and apology to his girlfriend.

He thought she deserved that much, but apparently the rules were stubborn and set in stone. He had no choice.

Which caused a tremendous amount of animosity by the time he made it home that night...

—reader's pov—

I can't believe he's blowing me off. On our day of all days. I'd have a little more grace on any normal weekday or weekend, but today?

Him blowing me off today's just cold.

We have a locator app on each of our phones for each other. Just because of Pete's occupation. It's a reassurance thing for both of us.
