10; we carried the team

"we're playing lazer tag! larri set up, i decided not to tell y'all as a surprise to wrap up lola's visit. alot of influencers are coming, and-"

"yeah, nah, i'm out." i cut her off as soon as the word influencers flew out of her mouth. i'm not stupid, i know that vinnie will be there, and i refuse to see him again.

we haven't see each other since the gas station that night of the party, and things will definitely be more awkward now. i thought everything was good between us, but obviously not by the way he stormed out of the building before i could even say hello.

i heard his voice, in person. for the first time since august, i got to hear his voice. all he said was my name, and it still made me weak in the knees. i could feel my heart beat speeding up just from our eyes meeting again, and then i felt it completely stop when he left without saying another word.

i told nailea about the encounter, because she just barely missed it, but made her promise to keep it between us. however, i highly doubt she kept that promise. that girl is not good at keeping her mouth shut.

"if lola doesn't have to go, then neither do i." daniel shook his head, putting his hands up in surrender. "if daniel's out, then i'm out." micky shrugged. that was kind of a given. those brothers were inseparable, even if they did chew each other's heads off.

veondre groaned. "god, come on! lola, this is your last day. i understand you don't want to see...him. trust me, neither do i. you already know i wanna backhand that nigga. but, i think that we should put that behind us just for today, and try to enjoy your last moments with us. please?" she looked at me with hopeful eyes, making me sigh.

well, when she puts it like that, i can't possibly decline.

"alright, fine, i'm in." i mumbled, trying my best to not smile when the three of them cheered at my confirmation. "but, you have to make sure he's not on the same team as me, alright? i'm not dealing with no awkward shit." i set my boundaries as daniel put his arm around me.

"don't worry, lola. we'll make sure nothing goes wrong."

"well, shit. that definitely went wrong." micky whispered in my ear as we went over with the rest of our teammates.

i had one request. one. all i asked is that we wouldn't be put together. but, of course, that request wasn't fulfilled. noah and dixie were the team captains, and of course he would choose vinnie. they were pretty close. but me? why'd he have to choose me?

we were on team red. my teammates being nailea, larri, micky, jack, cory, and much to my dismay, vinnie. i'll admit, noah did choose a good team. unlike dixie, he chose people who have similar strategy during competition. however, i really wish he would've been more considerate of the chemistry between us.

"alright, look," noah spoke, his eyes going over all of us as we huddled together, "we need to play this smart. there's three rounds, we need a different plan each one. we have to spread out, but two of you have to hide out together and snipe the other team when you see one of us in trouble."

he was taking this incredibly seriously. "nailea, get charli out. she's an easy target. cory, you have to get max out. he's definitely the best they got on the team. lola and vinnie, you guys hide out and keep watch. the rest of you, spread out and show no mercy, alright?"
