We're out of the Kyln. I can hardly believe it myself. Not even changing back into normal clothes can shake the feeling of being confined with a bunch of angry brutes wanting to kill people... Maybe it's because an angry brute who wants to kill someone is confined in the Milano with us. Drax the Destroyer, that is.
Still, I'm glad to be out in one piece.
"What do you think of this?" Peter asks. I stand up from my bed, raising my eyebrows. "What do you mean?"
"That orange glowy thing that you do..." Peter begins. I nod, my head. "I've done that since I was a baby. When it happened in front of Yondu, he told me to hide it. Because people could find me valuable and sell me," I explain. My eyes shift to the palm of my hand. "I can't exactly control it, yet. I'm guessing it's most powerful when I'm angry. Or scared. I think it's cool, I guess. And the fast healing is definitely a plus."I look back up at Peter, who's staring right at me with softened green eyes. "How come you never told me that? Or anything about your powers, for that matter. We've known each other for-- what? 20 years?" I shrug at the question. I don't really have a good answer that won't make me sound like a loser.
"I guess I didn't want you to think of me as a freak." Just saying it out loud causes me to snicker. "It's stupid, I know," I say."Yeah, it is stupid. Why would you think that I'd think you were a freak?" "I don't know. Personal insecurities," I snort.
"You're, like, the coolest person I know. Your orange glowy thing just adds to that even more." Blood rushes to my cheeks. He grabs my hand, gently tracing my knuckles with his thumb. "You'll always be Y/N to me. Powers or not. You're still cool, funny, and beautiful."
...Beautiful?
"Heh... well- I- Um, same to you," I stammer. Oh my god, why can't I talk right?! "I'll, uh, see you later... Pete." Without another word, I swipe away my hand and walk away, my heart pounding out of my chest.
Though there's not anywhere else I can escape to other than the other side of the room. Ugh, why did I even say "see you later"?! My face is so warm, it could probably melt an ice cube in seconds.Though I'm a mess, I manage to catch Rocket in the act of rummaging through some parts of the Milano.
"Hey. What do you think you're doing?!" I demand, crossing my arms. "What's it look like I'm doing?" he snarkily responds."Woah, woah, woah! Yo! Ranger Rick, what are you doing?!" Peter shouts as he storms up to him. "You can't take apart my ship without asking me! See, what is this?"
He goes to reach for whatever Rocket has created, but stops once Rocket warns, "Don't touch that. It's a bomb." "A bomb?!" Peter echoes, bewildered. "Yup." "And you leave it lying around?!" "I was gonna put it in a box," explains Rocket as he opens up a drawer. "What's a box gonna do?!" Peter yells. "Rocket, just put it away," I add. "I'm going to. How about this one?" He pulls out a box wrapped in gift wrap and a bow.
"No! Woah! Hey!" He kicks the box out of Rocket's hand. "Leave it alone!" "Why? What is it?" "Shut up." "Drop it, Rocket," I say through my teeth. Rocket shrugs, wondering why Groot, Gamora, or Drax isn't chiming in to take his side. "Hey..."
"What is that?" Peter points to a combination of the ship's parts that Rocket has tinkered with. "That's for if things get really hardcore," Rocket says with a mischievous grin. "Or if you wanna blow up moons."
"No one's blowing up moons," Gamora pipes up. "You just wanna suck the joy out of everything," Rocket mutters under his breath.
"So, listen, I'm gonna need your buyer's coordinates," Peter tells Gamora. "We're headed in the right direction. For now," she informs, holding the Orb in her hand. Peter raises his eyebrows, taking note of her short answer. "If we're gonna work together, you might wanna try trusting me a little bit," he remarks. "And how much do you trust me?" she shoots back.He swiftly takes the Orb from her hand. "I'd trust you a lot more if you told me what this was. Because I'm guessing it's some kind of weapon." He places it on the table. Everyone begins to gather around, ready to hear the story of the Orb. "I don't know what it is," she declares.
Drax picks up the Orb, looking Gamora dead in the eyes. "If it's a weapon, we should use it against Ronan," he suggests. "Put it down, you fool! You'll destroy us all!" Gamora orders. "Or just you, murderess!" he growls. "I let you live ONCE, princess," she hisses, getting face-to-face with him. "I am not a princess!"
"Hey! Nobody is killing anybody on my ship!" Peter interjects. "We're stuck together until we get the money." Drax makes a face of disgust. "I have no interest in money!" He hastily tosses the Orb back to Peter and storms off.
"Great. That means more money for the four of us," Peter quietly says. Groot huffs and looks at him, incredulous. "For the five of us," Peter sighs.
He looks at Gamora and me. "Partners," he smiles non-enthusiastically. " "We have an agreement. But I would never be partners with the likes of you. I'll tell the buyer we're on our way," Gamora coldly tells us. "Amazing. Then it'll be just us two like it always has been," I scoff, sitting on top of the table.
"And Quill? L/N? Your ship is filthy." She turns around to walk up the ladder. I can't help but notice Peter's eyes following her.
"Oh, she has no idea. If I had a blacklight, this place would look like a Jackson Pollock painting," he smirks. "You got issues, Quill," says Rocket.I slide myself off of the table, in slight disgust.
