Soon enough, the daily meet-ups with Zeke became something you looked forward to everyday. His annoyingly positive attitude just grew on everybody in the building and now the atmosphere wasn't so depressing anymore.
Even though he couldn't convince your dad to let you leave your room often, he convinced him to at least give you one hour a day. And to regularly change agencies to practice socializing with others.
Thing really did start looking up and you were all for it. It was a nice change of pace from the neverending cycle of boredom.
But of course, anything can ruin a good moment as quick as a snap of a finger.
☆*: .。. Five months later .。.:*☆
It was midnight, and you couldn't sleep no matter what you did. You and Zeke were having a sleepover and he already passed out three hours ago. There was just a feeling in your gut that's telling you something's gonna happen and you can't ignore it no matter what you do.
Since sleep wasn't going to come anytime soon, you decided to just go get a drink of water.
You exited the room and let the guards outside your door know that you were going to the kitchen. Usually Zeke accompanied you, so they were a bit hesitant to let you go. But they let you after you insisted that it would only take five minutes.
It was dead silent as you walked down the hallways filled with wanted posters and crates along the walls. The wanted posters were mostly Hank, but two others named Deimos and Sanford occasionally came up as well.
The trip from your room to the kitchen was short. You grabbed a glass and poured sink water in it, not caring if it tasted like garbage. The fridge was locked due to too many agents sneaking in at night and stealing food from it.
Once you finished, you put the glass in the sink and made your way back to your room. It was still dead silent just as before, until you heard hushed bickering in the distance. This would've been normal, if it weren't for the fact that they were trying to keep quiet.
No agents here had the decency to keep their voices down in any arguments, even if it was three in the morning, and no grunts were allowed to leave their rooms (you called them prison cells) until morning.
You stopped walking and did your best to eavesdrop into their conversation.
"I'm telling you! If we light this building on fire, the agents will surely go towards the room that kiddo is in!"
"And what if the kid isn't even in their room? What if we accidentally kill them in the fire? Doc's gonna kill us if we do!"
"Yea? Well I don't know any other way! Why are we even trying to get them anyway?"
"I don't know, Doc said something about them being the key to the Auditor's downfall."
"The fuck does that mean?"
"You think I know?"
"Whatever man, let's just set the building on fire. Yes to arson."
"I literally just said no to arson, dickhead."
"Then why are you wearing a shirt this time lmao, it's like you were prepared for this."
"It's cold, alright? It's midnight and it's like 20°F/-6°C. And it's still a no to arson."
"Yes to arson."
