NEXT DAY
I wake up feeling sore from sleeping on the floor. Dylan is gone, so I guess he left while I was sleeping. After a shower and getting dressed, I head downstairs for breakfast.
"Hey Aurora, how was your night?" Roseline asks.
"Good morning. It was nice. Thanks for letting me stay here," I say.
"You’re just in time for breakfast. And you don’t have to thank me, we’re family now, so no more of that nonsense or I’ll smack you with the wooden spatula," she jokes.
Hearing someone call me family feels nice, even though it brings tears to my eyes. I didn’t realize I was crying until Roseline wiped my tears away.
"Thanks. So what are we having?" I ask, trying to lighten the mood.
"Just pancakes and orange juice. Grab a plate and help yourself," she says.
"Okay."As I reach for the bottle of orange juice, Nathaniel comes in and snatches it, drinking every last drop.
"You snooze, you lose, freak," he taunts.
I just stand there, unable to say anything. This is his house, and I don’t want to go back to "him."
"Like I said, that’s how he is with everyone, except Rylan. They’ve always been close," Roseline explains.
"Okay," I reply
"Open the fridge, you’ll find another bottle of orange juice," she instructs.
"Thank you," I say.
"I told you, no thank yous. We’re family," she reminds me.
"Okay."I open the fridge, get the bottle, and pour myself a glass. Halfway through my meal, I hear a yawn and turn to see three shirtless boys entering the kitchen.
"Good morning, Mum," they say in unison, their eyes widening when they see me
"Shit!" they exclaim, and quickly leave.
Two minutes later, I finish my food, clean up, and head upstairs to freshen up. I spend the rest of the day in my room, debating with myself, before finally going to sleep.
I wake up in a panic, dreaming of "him" barging into the room with a whip. I scream for help. Someone shakes me awake, and I see many eyes staring at me.
"Aurora, are you alright?" Roseline asks, concerned.
"Yeah, it was just a bad dream," I say Nathaniel scoffs,
"You all heard her, it was just a bad dream. We wasted our time coming here. I’m out."
"Stop being rude, Nate," Roseline scolds.
"I’m not being rude. I’m just stating facts," he says as he storms out of the room.
"Don’t mind him, he’s just being plain old Nate," Roseline says, as everyone else leaves the room except for her.
