"WHAT WERE you thinking?" clarisse practically cried as she cradled the aphrodite girl's head in her lap, smoothing black curls out of silena's eyes that were white with blindness.
silena tried to swallow, but her lips were dry, and cracked as she gazed up at the starry sky, not seeing a thing as she blinking watering eyes white with blindness, "wouldn't listen. cabin would . . . only follow you."
"so, you stole my armor?" clarisse said in utter disbelief, her tone so motherly, defensive as she looked down at the aphrodite girl, it was as if she hardly recognized the injured girl as she cradled the girl in her lap. "you waited until chris, and i went out on patrol; you stole my armor, and pretended to be me." clarisse casted a well-aimed, evil glare to each of her siblings in turn, "and none of you noticed?" the ares campers who were observing the scene developed a sudden deep, unyielding interest in their combat boots.
"don't blame them," silena pleaded, her eyes searching aimlessly in the direction of where clarisse's voice was coming from. the aphrodite girl wrapped her hand around clarisse's wrist, as if restraining her from going after her siblings with a murderous intent. "they wanted to. . . to believe i was you." that went without saying. as much as she tried to hide it, an expression of genuine guilt was on the ares girl's expression, something she had most likely been fighting with for days at that point. it was no wonder her siblings were all too believing she had a change of heart.
"you stupid aphrodite girl," clarisse cried, genuine tears running down her cheeks as she smoothed her thumb gently across the burns that inhabited silena's once smooth, perfect skin around her pale blue eyes. ashanti missed the color, the milky white color of blindness replacing the pair of irises she once adored.
"it's all my fault. ashanti knows," silena croaked, her gaze roving, looking for the dionysus girl as a singe tear streaked down the side of her face. at the mention of her name, all eyes slowly moved to the quiet girl, who had been happily going forgotten in the hectic moments of chaos. at the inquisitive looks aimed to her, she found herself looking away. "the drakon, charlie's death. . . camp being endangered–" clarisse tried to fight her words, protest that they weren't true, but silena opened her palm, and revealed the silver charm bracelet from ashanti's dream. the silver scythe charm dangled, almost teasingly, catching the light. the mark of kronos.
"you were the spy?" percy gaped at her, so shocked, so hurt, the words came out nearly soundless. he blinked at the aphrodite girl in disbelief. he looked to ashanti, hoping to find that it wasn't true, but the mournful nod she replied with crushed him indefinitely as he tried to understand when she had figured it out, and how long she'd been carrying around such a burden. he looked back to the blinded daughter of aphrodite with an expression of utter betrayal.
silena tried to nod, but winced in pain as certain facial expressions pulled at the burns around her eyes. she grimaced, feeling the numerous expressions of hurt, betrayal, and shock being sent in her direction. more tears rolled down her cheeks as she confessed, "before. . . before i liked charlie, luke was nice to me. he was so. . . charming. handsome. later, i wanted to stop helping him, but he threatened to tell. he promised. . . he promised i was saving lives. fewer people would get hurt. he told me he wouldn't hurt. . . charlie. he lied to me."
