After finally going back to sleep after the nightmare, you wake up.
You sit up, and rub your eyes. You look around. You smell a scent of something burning. You widen your eyes, and spring up. You open the door, and look downstairs. Stan has a water bottle, and there's smoke everywhere. The fire alarm is going crazy. "Stan?! What happened?" You ask, running downstairs to help. "I tried to cook something for you!" He yells over the alarm. "Tsk." You scoff, getting the old coffee he had left out last night. You poured the coffee on what used to be..maybe...bacon and eggs? Kind of? "Thank you, really, it's adorable, but don't burn your house down." You scold him, fanning the fumes. "Right..my apologies." He laughs nervously. You scoff. "Dude, I work as a waitress. My best friend is a grill cook. Move aside." I say, scooting him over to let me do the cooking instead. It wasn't even that you just happened to watch people cook. You watched your mother cook a lot too.
She would walk through how to prep the ingredients, what to set the oven at, etc. You would pay such close attention. You remembered one dish, and it was DJ's favorite breakfast dish. It was a simple and fun set of cinnamon rolls. You smiled to yourself, thinking of the happy memories you and your family had when watching each other cook. You opened the fridge, and took out the needed ingredients. Using the recipe you knew by heart, even though you haven't seen your family nor see them cook in years, you still knew perfectly. Stan just sat back, and watched like you used to.
You rolled each one with care, and put them in the oven. You opened the cupboard, and thankfully, Stan had cinnamon sugar. Once the rolls were done, you took them out of the oven and sprinkled the sugar on top of them after placing butter on it as a base.
"There! All done." You say, looking at them in pride. "It smells so good." He whimpers, staring at the rolls in awe. "Heh. Thank you. My mom taught me." You smile, starting to tear up. Stan looks concerned.
[Peter's POV]
Seeing how upset she is behind those eyes, I felt slight shame. I didn't know she was so close to her family. Do I regret killing them?...I mean...kind of??? Maybe???

Getting yourself back on track, you take the dish off the oven and set them on the table. "Great! Go get us some plates." You say in gleam. Stan rushes over, and takes two plates, and sets them on the table. You give him a roll, and you give yourself one.
You both took a bite, and as soon as you did, both of you spit it out. "That's awful! I'm so sorry! Jesus!!!" You spit. You realize you must've forgotten a lot of vital ingredients you never saw your mother put in her rolls. "T-They weren't so bad-" Stan tries to comfort between coughs. "God, no wonder I'm so bad. I haven't seen her make anything in years." You cough. Stan catches his throat finally, as do you.
"Why is that?" He asks, throwing all the rolls away. "She's dead, remember?" You say. "Oh, yes, I'm sorry for bringing that up." He apologizes. "It's alright. I shouldn't have told you that on our first date. It was naive." You say, standing up. You have another memory come to you. In fact, it feels more like a flashback.
// flashback //
You were 7 years old. You here sitting on the couch next to DJ, playing video games. Your mother was getting Halloween decoration spread across the house. "DJ, are you still taking Y/n trick or treating?" Your mother asked in her calm, soothing voice. "Yeah, totally. Go get ready, Y/n." DJ says, getting off the couch and heading upstairs. You smile and bounce off after him.
You put on your costume, which happened to be red riding hood. You rushed back downstairs, and grabbed your candy bucket. DJ, who was 14 at the time, didn't wear a costume. "Hold on! No need to hurry!" Your mother says, pulling out her camera. You and DJ groan. "Mom, please! Everyone is waiting. You can take pictures later." He groans. Your mom laughs. "she looks so adorable, though." She whispers, taking photos of you. "Please, mom? I'm gonna lose all the good candy." You complain. "One more?" Your mother begs.
"Sharon, let them leave." You dad says, ruffling your mothers hair. "Alright, alright. Don't go past town!" She calls out, blowing her hair out of her face and after you and DJ. "Mom's insane." You whisper to DJ as he laughs. "She is, isn't she?" He laughs along with you.

The flashback fades out of your head, and you sigh in happiness. "Y/n? Are you okay?" Stan asks, resting his hand on your shoulder. "Yep! I should go though. It's getting late, and there's something I have to do." You smile. "Oh, alright. Maybe I could stop by this weekend?" He suggests. You nod. "Sure!" You say, running back upstairs and getting your coat. You rush back down, and you and Stan walk to the door. He opens it for you, and you both go on the porch. "Thanks for letting me stay the night." You say, lifting yourself up, and giving him a well earned kiss on the cheek. Both of your faces heat up.
He stands there, flustered, as you walk to your car and leave.
You leave the woods, and go to the grocery store. You pick up some bags of candy, and a candy bowl. This year, for some reason, you want to do trick or treating. You check out, and go home. You walk to your apartment, and get everything set up. Lucy walks out of her bedroom, shocked. "So now you want to do trick or treating? Did you hit your head on the way there or something?" She laughs. "No. I just had a change of heart. Plus, there's a lot of kids in the building. It wouldn't hurt to give them candy." You explain. She shrugs. "Alright. Well, I won't be here tonight. You'll have to be the one staying up till three handing these kids candy." She claims.
"I feel a lot more comfortable doing that, anyways." You joke. She laughs sarcastically. "Ha ha. Very funny. I'll see you tonight!" she says, walking out the door. You smile to yourself, and get ready for all the trick or treaters. After waiting for a small moment, you finally hear the doorbell. You walk up in excitement, and open the door and see a cute little boy in an astronaut costume. You wave hello in cheer, and hand him some candy.
And that's how it went for the rest of the night.
You don't know what changed your mind, but you have an idea of what did.
