Everyone slowly makes their way to the front door. I stayed behind, not wanting to draw attention to whoever it is. It must be someone important.Gandalf opens the door to reveal another dwarf, only this one seems more kingly. He has royalty written all over him, I'm usual not one to feel intimidated by anyone but I was, just by looking at him.
My intense stare at the dwarf was interrupted when he spoke. "Gandalf." He says as he walks in. "I thought you said this place would be easy to find, I lost my way twice. I wouldn't have found it at all if it wasn't for that mark on the door." He looks to Fili and Kili and gives them a big smile. They must be important to him somehow. I wonder if they're related in someway.
"Mark?" Bilbo protested pushing through the ocean of dwarves. "There's no mark on that door, it was painted a week ago." Gandalf quickly closes the door.
"There IS a mark. I put it there myself. Bilbo Baggins allow me to introduce you to the leader of this company: Thorin Oakenshield." the wizards gestures between them.
Thorin steps up to the hobbit. "So, this is the hobbit?" He begins to circle Bilbo like a shark circling his pray. "Tell me Mr. Baggins, have you done much fighting?"
"Pardon?" Bilbo asks.
"Axes or sword, what's you're weapon of choice?" Thorin asks.
" Well, I have skills in conkers if you must know but I fail to see why that's relevant." Bilbo says.
"Thought as much." He turns towards the other dwarves. "He looks more like a grocer than a burglar." the others laugh at his comment.
I wasn't to happy about his joke towards Bilbo, I wanted to defend the hobbit but my feet were glued to the floor and like I said I didn't want to draw attention to myself. But my worse nightmare came true.
Thorin looks directly to me. "And who might you be?" He asks cautiously.
Before I could open my mouth Gandalf comes to my rescue. "She is a friend of Mr. Baggins here. She WILL be joining us in the meeting." the wizard made it as a command and not as a question that I will be at the meeting whether Thorin liked it or not.
Thorin looked to Gandalf curiously, but the wizard gives him a look as if to say 'Trust me, I know what I'm doing' Thorin only nods slightly, looking to me once more and then walks to the dinning room.
I release a breath I didn't know I was holding. My breath trembled a bit until I felt a hand on each shoulder. I turned to see both Fili and Kili smiling, each with a hand on a shoulder as they both lead me to the dinning room.
I sit next to the brothers as Balin speaks up. "What news from the meeting in Ered Luin? Did they all come?" He asks.
"Aye, envoys from all seven kingdoms." Thorin stats as a small cheer erupts from the table.
Dwalin speaks up. "And what did the dwarves of the Iron Hills say? Is Dain with us?" He questions.
"They will not come." Thorin says in a defeating tone. "They say this quest is ours, and ours alone."
The word 'quest' caught Bilbos attention. "You're doing a quest?"
Gandalf hears the small voice from behind. "Bilbo, my dear fellow, let us have a little more light." Bilbo goes to retrieve a candle as Gandalf continues. "Far to the East, over rangers and rivers, beyond woodlands and wastelands, lies a single solitary peak." He pulls out an old map from his robe and lies it on the table in front of Thorin. I really wanted to see this map but I was to far away so I continued to listen.
"The Lonely Mountain." Bilbo reads over Thorin's shoulder holding a candle.
"Aye, Oin has read the portents, and the portents say: it is time" Gloin declares.
