She must have been out of it for a few minutes because when she opened her eyes, the guys were still holding Kachi and she could hear him crying? It didn't matter to her at that moment because all she could think about was to get the hell out. Her brain couldn't get around what had just happened to her so she'd just store it away for later. She sat up, picked her bag and quietly left the house, all the while hoping Kachi wouldn't notice her absence. She couldn't believe that their relationship was over but there was nothing else she could do. He'd neither confirmed nor denied his involvement with the other woman and he had gotten aggressive too.
Aria shook her head as she waited for her Uber to come get her. Distantly, she could hear her phone ringing in her bag, but all she wanted was to go home and sleep.
When she got into the cab, she gave him the address to Pete's house because she knew Kachi would look for her to try to explain things. That much she could gather from how he'd been pleading with his friends to let him talk to her. However, the opportunity was long gone. There was nothing he had to say that would interest her, not right now.

One week slowly crept past and she fielded all Kachi's calls. She didn't have it in her to actually block his number but still, she couldn't bear to hear his voice. She'd read his text messages though and he'd been full of apologies for pushing her, but nothing about the main issue; his relationship with Rose. That was confirmation enough that something was going on.
Obviously, he had to know that was the main thing stopping them from actually talking. So his refusal to address it only let her know he wasn't interested in fixing things.
Her phone rang just then and she silenced it without checking. There was only one person who had been calling her nonstop and she definitely wasn't going to pick up. She heard Pete's phone ring from the living room and then his smooth bass voice as he spoke to the person on the phone.
She turned away from the bed, tucked the blanket around her and shut her eyes. Sleep was the only thing she could do this period. She no longer worked at the club and even writing now seemed like a chore. Aria heard the footsteps seconds before he knocked and pushed the door open.
"Phone call for you," Pete announced as he waved his phone in the air.
She glared at him. Kachi had tried calling Pete a lot of times and she'd always asked him to ignore. So why was he bringing the phone to her?
"You know I do not want to speak to him!"
"It's not Kachi, it's my mom," he said in reply, then handed her the phone. Aria watched him take a sit beside her on the bed and he had on a somber expression that she didn't understand.
"What is it? Is she okay?" she asked as she stared at the phone.
"Just answer." The phone started ringing just then and she picked up, worried about why Pete's mom would be calling her.
"Good afternoon ma," she greeted. "Hope you're well?"
"Nnem, I'm fine o. How are you?"
"I'm good."
"I'll need you to come to Delta, it's an urgent matter."
"Why? Is it my mom? Is she okay?" Her heart rate picked up as she sat up in bed, various thoughts plaguing her. This conversation sounded like the prologue to bad news and she was instantly worried. Pete squeezed her hand as if he knew what was happening.
