Daella Velaryon sat beside her mother in her chambers. They always sat beside the fire and talked. It was their moment away from everything.
She looked over at her mother, who was holding her bump. "I don't wish to bear children." Her mother looked over at her with a knowing look.
"I said the same until I met the man I truly love." Her mother told her, and Daella shook her head. "But I know I will marry someone I don't love."
Her mother looked at her with her brows furrowed. "How do you know that, sweet girl?" She asked, seeing her daughter shrug.
"I have yet to know what love feels like." She explained, and her mother smiled softly. "I believe you will know when you feel it."
Daella shook her head at her mother. She knew her duty was to bear children, but she didn't want to. She wanted to live freely with no worry or fear.
"We shall see." Her mother told her with a soft smile. "Why don't you gather your brothers? It's almost time for dinner." She nodded as she got out of her chair.
She reached her mother and kissed her cheek before leaving the room. As she opened the door, she greeted the guard.
"Evening Princess." He said with a tilt of his head. "As to you." She told him before hurrying past him.
She made her way toward the training grounds and found her brothers. She also found her uncles, who were training.
She hurried down the steps and stopped in front of her standing brothers. "How much longer shall this be?" She asked them before turning to see Ser Harwin and Ser Criston looking at them.
"After they are done fighting. Why?" Jacaerys asked his sister in a confused tone. "It is nothing. Mother just wanted me to gather you both." They both silently nodded before watching their uncles fight.
She watched as Aegon became more aggressive in her presence. She and Aegon were not the closest, but they tolerated each other. It was said that as a babe, she followed him around.
She didn't know if she believed those rumors as he turned out to be a rude drunk. "Find me in the gardens." She told her brothers and turned from the fight.
She made her way up the way she had come and found her way to the garden. In the garden, she found Princess Helaena leaning on the ground, looking at something.
"What have you got?" She asked as she came up behind Helaena. The girl jumped and looked up and smiled upon seeing Daella. "Oh, Daella, I found the most beautiful bug."
Helaena stood and gently placed it in Daella's hands. It was a pink mantis, but she looked at Helaena with confusion.
"What was this again?" She asked while holding it close to her face. "It is a Hymenopus coronatus, also known as a walking flower mantis. They are aggressive creatures, but they are comfortable with humans."
She looked at Helaena with soft eyes as Helaena looked at the bug. "Are you going to keep it?" She asked as Helaena looked at her.
"I think you should keep her. I know you will take care of her." Helaena told her in honesty and smiled softly. "Your brothers are here."
Daella looked over her shoulder, seeing her brothers waving at her. "I should go. We shall continue the search for bugs tomorrow?" She asked as she moved the mantis close to her.
"Of course. I shall see you then." They shared a smile before she left for her brothers. "What have you got?" Asked a curious Lucerys, who tried to pull her hand down.
Jacaerys stopped him while Daella smiled, "I will tell you after dinner." Lucerys lowered his hand in defeat and nodded to his sister.
