Arthur Leywin POV
I was in my room, reading a book about gravity manipulation. I was getting close to unlocking it without my will, I could feel it. I tried to form a spell, but only failed again.
I was still missing something.
If I went the scientific approach gravity is the attraction between two objects. The more mass object a has, the more object b is attracted to it. That means I have to assign two targets to apply the magic to, doesn't it?
For example one would be able to increase the gravitational pull from the earth and a person, weakening this person, since the person would have to fight with the multiple of its weight slowing it down.
Of course one would be able to do the same the other way around, lightening oneself to be faster.
This would be the basics, of course there were other, more advanced techniques, like increasing the pull between your sword and the enemy, accelerating your sword and drawing the enemy closer.
I tried to decrease the pull of the earth on me. Frustrating that it didn't work, I activated my will. I recast the spell and it worked.
I took my time to analyze the brown particles, being absorbed from the atmosphere and turning into pink mana particles in my core, only to leave my body and wander to the earth. I could feel how they loosened the gravitation between me and the earth, allowing me to walk and jump just like astronauts had done in my previous life.
To counter the upward drift I conjured increased gravity on my foot, as it met the ground. Then I used the increased pull to avoid any slipping and propelled myself forward. As soon as my foot was ready to leave the floor I made it light again. As my other foot came closer to the floor I made that one heavier. With this way of using gravitation mana I was able to double my speed, but it only worked with the will.
I focused on the mana particles leaving my core. Half of them went to the earth, while the other half traveled to the thing I wanted to change the pull of. Then the particles wandered toward each other.
If I wanted to increase the gravity they ignored each other and went into the other object, drawing them closer to each other. In the case of me lightening the object they clashed into each other.
And then it hit me. Of course, how did I miss that?
Not only the pull on the person would change, but also the pull on the earth. Because of the major difference in mass the pull on the earth isn't noticeable at all, but it has to be there.
I stopped the spell and deactivated my will. Then I tried again. I tried to refine earth mana into gravitation mana and to let it wander towards the earth and my foot. There it would increase the pull of my foot towards the earth, and the earth toward my foot.
I could feel how mana was refined in my core, only to leave it for the destined places. I tried to lift my foot, and I felt that it was so heavy that I couldn't lift it without the help of some mana enhancement.
It worked. I had done the first step toward gravitation mana.
I experimented a bit more with it, how it behaved with objects and with the attraction between two objects, not involving the earth as one of the partners. Sadly I had to realize that because of the small mass the pull between two objects was so small, that I couldn't increase the pull enough to make a difference.
But that didn't demotivate me one bit. I was a four year old with a yellow core, an asuran will, blood of another asuran race and control over all four basic elements, as well as three of the deviant forms, with a fourth with my will activated, and the possibility of learning the decay mana art from one of the strongest, if not the strongest, human on earth.
If there was one thing I was sure of, it was that anything is possible and I will master gravitation mana one day, along all other mana natures.
I activated my will once more, but this time I also infused my blood with mana. This way I activated the Vritra blood, which allowed me to control the decay mana. I also noticed that the blood and the will enhanced each other, as well as allowing me to use them for longer, if I activated both.
If I wanted to try spells I still preferred to only use by will, as I wanted to reduce the amounts of variables.
But I have to say, this form really gave one an exhilarating burst of power.
Just as I was about to start experimenting with a gravitation spell, burning to see what I could do with it in this form, I felt a weird warmth in my core.
It wasn't painful, a fact I was surprised by. Whenever something had happened that I didn't understand at the time, it had been painful. No, instead it felt like finally coming into the warm home, after traveling through cold rain.
I could feel how something changed in my core. A part of my core, that I had thought to be related to my will, parted from my core and levitated out of my body. I saw how a white smooth stone left my body and caught it, before it fell down.
I remembered. The weird glowing stone that Sylvia had given me. I started to unwrap the feather, to take a look. It wouldn't have reacted like that, if nothing was happening.
As I unwrapped the feather, I could see how the stone beneath it had cracks. I hurried to unwrap the stone and took a closer look. The cracks continued to spread and grew bigger.
It took me a second to understand what was happening. The stone was an egg. I continued to watch the egg hatch, only to see a small black lizard emerging from the eggshell. It had yellow eyes and .. wings? I raised my hands, which held the egg with the small thing in it, remembering that small animals are afraid, if you look down on them, since predators look the same way.
The wings meant that that cute thing wasn't a lizard. If the glowing egg wasn't proof enough. I extended my other hand to lift it out of the broken shell, but it jumped on my hand and bit me on my wrist.
Dammit. I almost let it fall, more out of shock than pain. I looked at the bite, only to see a small rune engraved in my skin.
'Mama?' I heard in my head.
It was the voice of a small girl. But how did I hear it in my head?
I looked at the small being in my hand.
"Was that you?" I asked.
'Yes, are you mama?'
It clicked in my head. It was Sylvia's child. Agrona had said that she was pregnant. If I remember her dragon form, I could very well see this small dragon grow to look like her. Well, the color excluded. While Sylvia was white, this dragon was black, just like the horns I had. And like Agrona had...
At the thought of holding Sylvia's daughter a tear rolled down my cheek.
"No, I am not your mama. Your mama is.. .isn't here right now." I said. I couldn't bring myself to tell this small girl that her mother was dead."But I will protect you, don't worry." I said.
I patted her little head, to which I could feel happiness enter my mind. But it wasn't my happiness, no, it was hers.
'Well, I better go and visit Agrona, he is her father after all, I could imagine he wants to see her' I thought.
'Papa is here?' I heard her.
'Yes, he is' I thought, wondering if she could hear me this way.
After another rush of happiness about that statement I was sure that she could hear me.
